“UK iPhone carrier O2 added 137,596 pay-monthly customers – and says the Apple device helped drive these gains,” Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.
“These new customers turned up in advance of the introduction of the iPhone 3G, suggesting the price cut which presaged the launch of the new that was applied against units of the old model did the trick,” Evans reports.
“The addition of 137,596 new customers is 80.8% more people than who signed-up new to O2 in the same period last year. And the iPhone has become the network’s fastest selling mobile phone ever,” Evans reports.

the momentum of the new iPhone will really start taking off as more and more powerful apps are written for it via the App Store.
As impressive as this initial 3G demand sounds I really don’t think we’ve even seen the beginning of the upswing in iPhone sales.

There are alot of small business people out there who cannot afford slackberries who intend to get an iphone for the same service & more at a lower price.
They will be able to do business on the move due to mobileme’s super duper service, not to be confused with the chaos that was experienced in the US because too many people jumped onto the bandwagon at once.
