América Móvil, the leading wireless service provider in Latin America, and Apple today announced that the highly anticipated iPhone 3G will be available in Mexico on July 11. iPhone 3G will be available in América Móvil’s other Latin American operations, including Argentina, Brazil, Central America, Chile, Colombia and the Dominican Republic later this year. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.
“América Móvil is entering an exciting communication phase with the launch of iPhone 3G,” said Carlos Cárdenas, América Móvil’s COO, in the press release. “We believe iPhone 3G will add an even better network experience for our customers.”
“We’re excited to be working with América Móvil, the wireless leader in Latin America,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s COO, in the press release. “iPhone 3G is an amazing product and we think mobile users across Latin America will love it as much as we do.”
iPhone 3G will be available in Mexico starting July 11, and later this year in other countries served by América Móvil. For more information please go to:

Eso!
If you have an iPhone, will you be able to sign up and use their network
My only problem is that (and this is my feeling) that TelCel here in Mexico is comparable to Microsoft in some kind of monopolic behavior.
If they sell the iPhone with prepaid service, I will buy it and use it in my actual contract with Telefonica, despite they do not have 3G service. Anyway, I can go to Starbucks, Karl’s Jr, et. al. to get a free wi-fi connection.

Go Dominican Republic!
Although, I think I’m go wait for Orange’s 3G deployment later in August.
Kudos to América Móvil’s / Claro’s PR for reacting this quick and announcing this.
Orange’s public relations should be ashamed of themselves.
Bring it to Peru!!! SOON!!!
I’ve been a good boy a resisted the temptation to buy a hacked iPhone (and got an iPod Touch instead).
I played by the rules. I DESERVE MY IPHONE!!!
(I never said “for free” though. It would be nice, but let’s get real)
Ok, also, Ballmer is a jackass, Microsoft sucks, Apple is the bomb, Mac OS X is the best OS ever and all the usual
