“Australia will have the fastest Apple 3G iPhone in the world, a senior executive of Telstra has told ChannelNews. ‘We know what is coming we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA. By Xmas this phone will be capable of 42mbs which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world,’ they said,” David Richards reports or ChannelNews.
“The 3G version of Apple’s iPhone will become available very soon after its June 9 unveiling by CEO/chairman Steve Jobs at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco say Apple insiders. ChannelNews has also been told that Telstra already have 3G phones for testing,” Richards reports.

Someone in Australia is about to lose their job for squalking.
darn that non-disclosure agreement!!! doh! doh!!
Not anymore. Count Australia out after this exec spilled the beans.
And now we wait
3G is indeed FAST, I have a notebook on it now.
Hopefully iPhone 2.0 will address the needs of many, so we won’t have to wait for iPhone 3.0.
I assume Apple also learned a valuable lesson, not to assume they got it right the first time, to manufacture 10 million at the first pop and then have to discount them AND wait several years, before releasing the next version.
The cell phone market moves much faster. Apple has to release new iPhone versions at least every six months mandatory.
I think it is all part of a finely orchestrated plan by the good folks in Cupertino to ramp up excitement over the next few weeks.
And it could also signal better speed for the US as well…
Mad Mac Maniac,
“Several years?” Get real. Try “one year,” you fool.
And another thing
Apple needs to make the iPhone 2.0 in different sizes. Small medium and large.
Small: For those who don’t need a whole lot and want slim size
Medium: Present iPhone size
Large: Larger screen, more storage and memory. Computer like in almost every detail. Sure it might look like a small box being held up to one’s ear to make a call, but most will be using iChat instead.
Plus BIGGER is better. Just ask any SUV driver.
Jobs: “What time is it in Melbourne? I need to make a call. It’s what? 12:36 AM? That’s o.k. I’ll wake him up.”
Mad Mac Maniac,
You’re obviously a friggin’ genius.
Apple should fire Jobs immediately and replace him with you.
While I’m complaining.
Why the hell doesn’t Apple offer a low grade version of TV shows?
It’s not like high speed is everywhere and I’m tired of wardriving to find a open high speed connection.
LISTEN APPLE!! Glossy screens s*ck &ss;too.
Thank you for hearing my whine. I got some cheeze whiz too. LOL
I’m mad…thus my name.
@Mad Mac Maniac
A new iPhone version every six months? That would be ridiculously counterproductive.
i don’t know why you can’t use 2-3 phones using 1 number. that way, i can grab a small phone when i go out at night, use the regular sized iphone during the day. that would be much easier than switching sim card every time.
” . . . AND wait several years, before releasing the next version.”
What kind of crappy calendar are you using?
Or does several mean one in your language?
The iPhone was released for sale on June 29th, 2007.
@mad mac maniac
Your post isnt credible.
Several years? WTF are you talking about? The iPhone has NOT been discounted, has been out LESS than a year, has sold like hotcakes.
Sorry – what planet did you come from?
Er..actually, they DID get it right first time, They almost always do.
‘needs of many’? Thats like, you and your girlfriend?
‘The cell market moves faster’ NO, it moves at a glacial pace, they just stick a new cheap camera in, change the shape, and still all the phones are CRAP.
Apple have finally shown the world what a cell phone can be – and the rest cant do it.
Stupid post – go away.
42mbps!@&?
Who would have thought – my entire household and business internet connection running from a mobile phone…
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Apple should make three iphone sizes?
Yeah, one to sell, one for you and one for your girlfriend.
Please STFU.
You all mean to tell me the iPhone has only been out a measly year?
Jesus, your right. It feels like it’s been several years. Probably because I want one, but it’s not filling any needs I have in it’s present configuration.
So yes they need to come out with better versions every six months to keep the hype alive. A year has been too long to wait.
And no the iPhone 1.0 is not right.
My throat crushing huge fingers can’t hit the tiny fairy ass keys.
Stupid. Give me tactile feel of a real keyboard. Then I can adjust pressure to make sure my entry is correct.
not the hit and correct then try hitting again method of the iPhone keyboard.
stuff like that. you know, what makes the crackberry so popular.
I have to respond to this; Mad Mac Maniac, your comment sounds like it had come from another planet, and that is probably because your personal preference for what iPhone should be has not been met with the first version.
If there is any lesson Apple could have learned from the first iPhone, it would be not to change ANYTHING. IPhone, in its first version was an unprecedented success. Never in the history of gadgetry has any device ever sold so fast in such huge numbers. Not PSP, not StarTAC when it appeared years ago, not RAZR, nothing. And this was a device that initially cost $500! It broke all records. Its customer satisfaction numbers are significantly higher than any other mobile phone out there. in all markets where it was sold, it sold quickly. The only time sales begun to show early signs of slowing was when rumours started about the imminent 3G iPhone, and even this was mostly in EU markets (UK, FR, GE), where they might have preferred it to be 3G in the first place (not that it wasn’t selling briskly before that).
Every once in a while, someone comes on these boards and states flat-out that iPhone was a failure, or partly a failure, because it lacked this, that or the other (usually 3G, GPS and physical keyboard, in addition to non-exclusive carriers), and that Apple should learn from this. Obviously, they would personally like that some of those perceived shortcomings were addressed. However, this doesn’t automatically negate the numbers. We’ve seen them on MDN many, many times.
If iPhone 3G keeps exactly the same specs as iPhone 2.5G (with the only addition being 3G), it will sell extremely fast. Mour Mad Mac Maniac here will probably not buy it, as it will be missing something that he wants. I am sure, though that 30 – 40 million other people will buy it in the next 6 – 12 months.
And to chime in on the subject, I don’t think anyone will lose their job (or break a contract with Apple) for ‘spilling the beans’ on iPhone distribution. So many have already announced this out there, and with Apple not even selling the existing model anymore, there is no more doubt that it is coming very soon.
MDN, can’t you engineer it for us to be able to slap an “IGNORE THIS” sticker on the more inane posts here?
Mad Mac Maniac’s is one good example.
Today’s grammy, emmy, and nobel prize goes to Mad Mac Maniac. Everybody deserves a bad day…er, for him, a really bad day.
“My throat crushing huge fingers can’t hit the tiny fairy ass keys.”

If one’s ape-like, fat fingers are better suited to use a Blackberry then order your Bold and be happy.
To quote Bill Gates: “Steve is so known for his restraint.”
Nice knowing ya Mr. Australian Executive.
Hey, I’m a consumer. I have spent a small fortune on Apple toys and when something doesn’t meet my needs I say something.
Hopefully Apple will get the message and do things BETTER NEXT TIME.
It’s you brainwashed “Apple can’t do no wrong” that got the problem. Apple is just a company catering to OUR needs, but you all seem to think you need to be buying their poorly designed products to meet THEIR needs.
Doesn’t work like that. Apple as a result HASN’T been listening to the needs of the consumers. It automatically assumes it knows what is right FOR US.
For instance, can’t self change the battery in your new Apple devices resulting in premature hardware replacement?
That’s what I’m talking about. Things like that.
@ Mad Mac Maniac Re: iPhone Design
Two words for you: Black Pencil.
If you don’t know what that means, you just don’t ‘get it’
Here’s a clue.
