“Are liberal Democrats less likely to have social lives than conservatives? According to Karl Rove, the answer to that question is yes,” Matthew Sheffield reports for NewsBusters. “The Republican guru all but made that argument explaining why he thought liberals are more likely to be on the web than conservatives.”
Sheffield reports, “‘I hate to sound sort of diffident about it but it strikes me that a lot of people on the right have got active lives and are doing other things,’ Rove said. ‘The idea of spending a lot of time on the internet and taking their talents and displaying them there is not something [conservatives] really do.'”
Sheffield conducts a wide-ranging interview with Rove, even touching on Apple iPhone and MacBook Air:
Sheffield: Last time I saw you, you’d just gotten an iPhone. How’s that working out for you?
Rove: I love it. My life has changed. I have a shred of coolness. I’ve got my 3,500 people in my addressbook on the phone, I can sync my calendar. I keep track of my modest little stock investments. I can check the weather of my house in Washington, my house in Florida, my boy at school, my hunt-lease in south Texas. I can surf the web, I’m just–I get part of my email there. I mean it is just shocking how much better, how much more productive I am. I no longer carry around a giant address book, if I don’t have my calendar close at hand, I can quickly check it out of my– I don’t have to carry, I used to carry several notecards, now it’s just as easy to scribble on my little notepad, I can take photographs and forward them on immediately, it’s just remarkable.
Sheffield: All right. Well it sounds like Steve Jobs should call you up as a spokesman.
Rove: There we go, there we go. And not only that, I also have the Mac Book Air which is really cool. Even my wife is jealous of my MacBook Air.

It’s nice to see conservatives like Karl using Macs. I go back to the beginning of Macs. I remember a TV advertisement Apple had shortly after the LaserWriter was introduced. If featured two guys on an airplane. An overweight, 60-ish-year-old fart was looking at this younger guy’s printed presentation. Nice pie charts, bold horizontal rules.

I recently read an article about Rev. Wright and his church on Yahoo News. Did you know that he kept his church in South Side of Chicago when all the other churches moved to the suburbs? Did you know that Rev. Wright has personally given money to help predominately white UCC churches in his area when they were in financial need? Did you know that Rev. Wright busses white church youth groups to his church every weekend to create a dialogue between black and white youth? Why would a man do this
if he was a racist hate-monger?
I’ve spent this week educating myself on who this man is, I’ve watch the full sermons that the MSMs have clipped to create this controversy. I watch Sen. Obama’s speech as well as read it. To make my own determination of this man. My conclusion is that he says things to
“stir the pot” to get people to stop just accepting their place in life and to start thinking about where they are at, where they are going, and how best to make that happen.
I’d like to see a PPV caged death match between Carville and Rove.
Of course, there will have to be assistants doing the actual fighting and plenty of refreshments.

I have more respect for a man who can look at his pastor and say he disagrees with things he says, but respects the man for the work that he’s done and for the man that he is, than for a man who is pandering to hate-mongers he once denounced just to get a certain segment of the voting populations votes. Like McCain did when he denounced the leader of Bob Jones University but then spoke there, or with Hagee who has said many bigoted things against gay, lesbians, the Catholic Church, the European Union, or Islam.

It is not oK, but there is a difference. McCain is seeking an endorsement. That is politics, such as it is.
Obama is not seeking the support of his pastor for an election (supposedly) but for enlightenment toward salvation.
Just as David Duke had the Klan in his past, nothing he ever did or said could erase that fact, regardless of his current beliefs (which I doubt had changed that much). It is understood that was a part of him.

As for the number of terrorist actions against the U.S. since 9/11, there was the anthrax attacks of the fall of that year. No one has been charged nor brought to justice regarding those terrorist acts.

Your analogy is stupid because David Duke was a member of a true racist group that has historically killed, maimed, intimidated, and as advocated the destruction of non-whites as part of its modus operandi. He may have disavowed he connection to this organization, but even you suspected that it wasn’t sincere.
Obama has spent his life in community service to improve the living conditions of the poor who live in an area of high crime, drugs, and low employment. Work he did through his church, which attracted him to his church. As a state representative for this same community he worked on ethic reform, healthcare, childcare, and income tax credit for low income people. Obama is not, was not, and has not been apart of an organization that has killed people.
Rev. Wright, while he has said some controversial things has also worked to improve the conditions of the people who live in his community. His church has does hiv outreach, has supported other churches in his city, was a friend of LBJ’s, and has worked to create dialogue between youth of other different races for better understanding. He has never advocated the killing or destruction of non-blacks.
While I understand your point was to say that a person’s past affects them in the present. It doesn’t take into account the true history of these people or the organization they belong, or belonged to, based on their actions.

How many years and how many dollars would you recommend is necessary to prevent one more American death?
Over the last five years, the US has lost around 4,000 servicemen in Iraq which is around 1,250 more people than were lost on 9/11. At the moment, you’re actually paying money (around $10 million every hour of the day) to lose – on average – just over two servicemen.
This is particularly unfortunate considering that a) none of the hijacker-jihadists involved in 9/11 were Iraqi and b) no link has ever been proven between the Ba’athist Iraqi regime – which consistently suppressed religious extremism which it perceived as a threat to its tyrannical dictatorship – and Al Qua’ida.
If you’re a fantasist living in a Cheney/Rove inspired world of make-believe, you can choose to ignore the fact that the US contrived a set of circumstances to enter into an illegal invasion of another country: all of the money that you waste and all the lives you lose (arguably the more important factor) are the result of an expansionist US foreign policy based on the pre-emptive use of force.
Sadly the policy was developed by people who didn’t understand that – on this scale – you have to fix what you break and also didn’t understand that foisting a western concept of liberalised democracy on a society fragmented along religious and tribal lines was likely to be problem. Still, that’s to be expected when you have a dry-drunk wannabe cowboy President who ducked his military service surrounded by a clique of chickenhawk war profiteers who all deferred their own service when the last time the country was involved in a morally contentious war.

Let’s try the math again–the Iraq war has cost over $500 billion, which is represented in scientific notation as $5×10 to the 11th. Now, MBAs cost somewhere in the vicinity of $2×10 to the 3rd power. So, doing my guzintus (long division), that comes out to 250 million MBAs or about 1 billion iPhones.

Taking Arnold’s original point and giving it some realistic perspective: you could purchase every elementary, high school and college student (around 67 million people according to 2003 numbers) a basic MacBook and it would only cost around $73.6 billion which would have left $426 billion to secure the nation’s ports whilst fighting an intelligence-based campaign against Al Qua’ida.
Maybe some of the money could have gone on some scientific research to fast-track the development of bio-reactors that would accelerate the hydrogen economy thus enhancing the energy security policy of the United States.
Of course, that particular scenario wouldn’t have left the Republican Party’s oil industry paymasters in control of Iraq’s oilfields so I can see how that wouldn’t fly.

It’s arguable that Bush was never actually elected. In the first term he was selected by the Supreme Court – unprecedented and probably unconstitutional. In his second term with the help of Diebold voting machines it’s likely that votes were changed in his favor. Without verifiable paper trails no one will ever know for sure. But when the head of the company that sold Diebold voting stations states that “he will deliver the election to George Bush” it is very likely that he did just that.
So please don’t hold the majority of American’s, that voted against Bush, accountable for his reign of terror. You can hold the Democrats in office accountable that never pressed impeachment against him.

It is obvious you have no clue about the Electoral College, voting laws concerning Federal elections, nor the Supreme Court.
They are all plainly written, and when the Dems tried to circumvent them through state law, they got called on it.

Firstly (part 3) I commented on your post because yours was one of the last ones I read. To be honest, I did not read all 180+ posts nor planned to comment on more than one. I picked yours. Sorry.
Secondly, the MDN thread re Al Gore has 28 posts compared to this one which is above 190 and is not nearly as mean towards Al Gore as the majority of the posts are against any republican or conservative. Either MDN is read by mostly angry people who hate conservatives or there are alot of non-conservatives that are mean spirited, hateful, etc. being therefore most hypocritical as to what they preach. Contrary to what appears to be widespread belief, I find conservatives to be much more friendly and generous than non-conservatives.
BTW, the meanest post on Al Gore’s thread is that he is a liar. Maybe liar is not the appropriate word because we need to know what his intent is. So maybe it would be more accurate just to say that he has and continues to promoted faux science (faux = fake) to try to tell the world that the earth has a fever. CO2 is a necessary element to convert sunlight to food and all of our crops grow better in warm weather. So we need to drive more to feed more. Feed the hungry by walking less.
