Apple releases Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.1 Update

Apple today released Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.1 Update and Mac OS X Server 10.5.1 Update which both include general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.

Important: Read before installing
• You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you’ve modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
• The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Support Downloads to update.
• It is recommended that you backup your system prior to installing any updates.
• If issues occur during installation–for example, Software Update quits unexpectedly–please see this article.

  1. Sadly, no mention of addressing the inability of Time Machine to recognize an Airport disk for backups as they had advertised. Still waiting for Apple to make good on that promise as I bought a new Extreme for that very feature.

  2. @@G4Dualie

I am using that feature so perhaps I am the only one who is experiencing a problem here.

When I resize the Feedback box by dragging the lower-right hand corner to the right, past the Disney ad, the ad itself becomes part of the Feedback box and as I drag the box downward, the Disney ad follows.

The Feedback box is still functional so no big whoop.

  3. It appears apple fixed a lot of stuff in this update, but most of that stuff I did not have a problem with or at least did not notice it.

I have leopard installed on a Mac mini and my MacBook Pro.

Even after the update, I am still having trouble with widgets and parental controls. Although I am not using Parental Controls on my account, it still will not let me install or use new widgets.

Also safari with Gmail does not work correctly either when composing new messages.

Other than that, leopard rocks! Keep the updates coming Apple.

  4. I just bought a new iMac 24″ but no Leopard WTF!! But hey, they threw in Microsoft Vista Home Basic (Chinese version) for free. Am I a happy camper or what, NOT! I guess I need to make a new trip to the store or just wait for the MacPro Penryn to arrive, that has Leopard for sure.

Has anybody tried if Logic Pro works with Leopard?

  5. Apple has done tremendous work here.

With all the recent updates, 10.4.11 just yesterday and today 10.5.1.

THIS IS WHY… Microsoft is the biggest piece of shitzen software company next to Adobe. Maybe I should say lazy fat arses.

    Apple can not be beat.

    Troll on… I can’t hear you!!!!

I too busy actually getting work done on my mac…
making money with my purchase rather then playin’ games or tweekin my system everyday cos it isn’t compatible with some driver.

    Yeah… I used Windows… for three years…
but I have also used a Mac for twenty.

    I never will go back.

  6. The reason I am running panther is because that is my original mac os with this iMac G5. My wife and I bought Tiger when it came out and I can’t find our disk. So we installed our original system software. If you can’t help fine. Just quick being a fu-knut about it.

  7. Let’s see, 20 days for the first major bug fix for Leopard. Exactly when is Vista’s SP1 coming out? 20 days after Vista’s release? 20 weeks? Maybe 20 months.

I guess it just takes longer to fix an old Edsel than a new BMW.

  8. I lost all the computers in “network” and “shared” that are not Macs after the update and I can’t get them back. I saw this same problem pre 10.5.1 on a few macs. Now its all of them. Anyone else have this issue?

  9. I loaded 10.5.1 and got the beach ball for over an hour during the reboot. I eventually did a hard reboot and loaded fine but continued to get the beach ball for several minutes. Since then everything seems to be running fine.

  10. In the land of Oz – 10.5.1 is very snappier!
I can hear the door slam shut when I quit an application!
    Whew!

All is good – no mouse problems. Network is super! I have five Macs and two PCs all networked – Airport Extreme and wired. working good. some Macs are still tiger and some are leopard. I will set up the HP laser printer (2600n) to go wireless – we shall see. If not, I will reconnect to my system and share it.

@ abelara – Dashboard is fine for me and I get my rss feeds now through Mail and all has been good there.

    Cheers all.
