Dr Pepper has released Matchcaps, the first-ever advergame designed specifically for the iPhone Safari browser.
“There’s always more to Dr Pepper. Consumers want enhanced access to fun and games on their iPhones, and Dr Pepper will be the very first to deliver it to them,” explained Andrew Springate, vice president of Dr Pepper marketing, in the press release. “With the launch of this advergame, Dr Pepper can interact virtually with its consumers anytime, anywhere through their iPhones.”
Developed by Imaginuity New Media, the game will follow the “match three” format (swap adjacent pieces to match three or more). Unlike other games, the Dr Pepper game will not be affected by iPhone software updates, as it is accessed via the Safari browser.
Consumers will not be required to download the new Dr Pepper advergame – gamers can gain access by simply browsing to http://www.drpepper.com/matchcaps.
Apple announced last week plans to distribute kits to third party application developers in February. Dr Pepper plans on converting the game for download to the iPhone once the developer kit is made available in the spring.

Wow, they make it sound like this is the first web app for the iPhone.
Go, Dr. Pepper!
Love the drink!!! (and looking forward to the game on my iPhone)
And here’s hoping future games aren’t another copy of Bejeweled. One really was enough.
This shit sucks.
Its a good game, nothing original though.
Played it a few times and its the sort of game that will do well on the iPhone.
But strip the game away and all it is is a fizzy drink promoting itself through a game.
Not exactly a ‘rocket science marketing idea’ either…
I saw an episode of Ernie & Bert with the very same board!
Bert needed one last pop cap to complete his collection.
And Ernie provides him with the Figgy Fiz bottle cap.
Dr. W. Figgy Fizhzr
It’s very gratifying to note that you can’t open this game with Internet Explorer. Says a lot about how things’ve changed.
I don’t know why, but the quote fromthe Dr. Pepper dude made me laugh. You’d think they just found the cure for cancer.
I think you are a liar.
I think he is right.
I remember a Sesame episode very much as he describes.
As for the game board, I am not sure.
Someone youtube it?
Zunatic
Check it: Bert and his bottle caps!

@Timbo
Great find, excellent research.
Crap… I owe an apology to Dr. W Figgy Fizhzr.
Sorry for saying you were a liar.
Gosh, golly, it sure does look very much like the Dr. Pepper game board. Halarious.
Hahahhaa
jay
Dr. Pepper and co. listen up
you should call Henson Associates and the Childrens Tevelvision Workshop Network… and cut a deal.
Yeah… just redub the whole E&B;Sesame segment to say,
“Yeah? Oh, wow! Something more exciting than a birthday party, or a parade, or a circus. I wonder what it could be. Bert! What could be more exciting than a parade or a circus or a birthday party, huh, Bert?”
“to play Dr Pepper Matchcaps, Ernie… on my iPhone”
Hee hee
Well it looks about as exciting as Berts original collection.
Man, some of you Mac Fans are strangely different.
funny spin
could be a clever commercial
Dr Pepper is the original American soft drink. It was patented in 1885–two full years before Coca-Cola hit the scene.
Funny, this looks just like static.popcap.com/iphone, just a different set of skins – got to be the same engine though. So how can this be the “first”?
