Beleaguered Gateway is attempting to rip-off the Apple iMac yet again.
For lovers of OS-limited, all-in-one, large-chinned knockoffs of Apple products, MacNN reports that the “exact launch date for the One is uncertain, but Gateway indicates a launch soon with two retail models and a single online-only version. The retail line starts at $1,300 with a 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of memory, a 320GB hard drive, and Intel X3100 graphics; a high-end model boosts speed to 2GHz, memory to 3GB, hard disk space to 500GB, and adds Mobility Radeon HD 2600 dedicated video for its higher $1,800 price tag… The online model sits in between the two store models with the same hardware as the base PC save for a 400GB hard drive and Radeon HD 2600 chipset. It should be available for $1,500.”

MacDailyNews Take: Seeing as how Apple spends more on floor wax each year than Gateway is worth, what else can Gateway do, but copy poorly?
That thing doesn’t look very stable…
stable?!? it is running windows fool!
Looks absolutely hideous. Is the tilt angle fixed?
At least they do ship with a decent amount of RAM. Is this because it can’t be upgraded? Apple should get a clue as regards memory and stop gouging for memory upgrades – come on $850 for 4GB – that’s about a 150% markup over Crucial.
“Both have a 1.3-megapixel webcam hidden in the chassis, Gateway says.”
It looks like there could also be a wheelbarow, a garden hoe, and Jimmy Hoffa hidden in that chassis.
You can’t even tilt the screen! And it looks like is a sneeze away from falling over.
If you sneezed you’d knock that thing over!
Damn kshaw, you beat me to it…
It actually ain’t that bad….too bad in only runs windows…
The chin is Gateway’s version of stickies, that’s where you write your notes. Colored chalk costs extra.
Jay Leno Edition… that’ s good one. A homely, un-funny mediocity.
But really people, that’s not too bad looking, for a DOSBox™.
Granted, it’s got to have the fat ass look to fit all the cheap components… and match their user base.
Mooooooooooooooooo
The eMachines “One” will the their beige tower box with the side panel replaced with a 15 inch 4:3 LCD Screen. It will also be “wall mountable”. Much lower cost, from the desing savings and parts sharing. Of course it will be running Vista (home basic) and have a Pentium 4 processor.
BUT IT WILL BE AN ALL-IN-ONE at less than half the cost of an expensive iMac!
Yo Grouse…
Apple has historically ripped people off with their RAM prices.
BTW: I got 4GB of RAM for my new MacBook Pro for $220 at DMS.
Reminds me more of the 20th Anniversary Mac, to be honest.

But yeah, we’ve been here before.
RE: falling over…
Now now, lets be fair. When the iLamp came out everyone said the same thing, and I never saw one fall over. I think the monitor falling over is really the last worry on Gateway’s mind right now. The company is now worth $702 million, which is probably what Apple retail would call a “lunch rush”.
If you really want to bitch about something, I notice that it has a glossy screen… ;P
-c
1.5Ghz!?! Didn’t know Intel made Core2Duos that slow still.
I’m glad to see that the ‘Jay Leno’ headline reflected the large chin of the One. I was afraid for a few moments that Jay Leno actually endorsed this product.
MDN MW: “larger” – the One has a larger chin than the iMac
By the way, how about the price/performance comparison between the iMac and this Wintel box…
It looks like the bastard love child of the 20th Anniversary Mac and some pitiful disfigured photo picture frame on steroids.
Poor thing.
@schmluss…. you lost me at eMachines. Worst quality control crap on the market. Sells for 1/2 of an iMac you say? Not worth the cardboard box it comes in.
And how big is that screen?
Hmmm, they want about the same price for a slower system…
Re: PC Apologist
My thoughts exactly… Looks like it might topple backwards and break it’s little plastic stand.
i guess wintel maichines are trying to look worse and worse and worse, maybe in the future they will look like crap.
@ ChrissyOne,
How are you?
Are you semi retired? How was your holiday?
Have you set up your own consultancy?
Questions, Questions, Questions!
Nice to see you back though!!!!!!
it’s def not the worst windoze box i’ve ever seen. it’s actually decent looking considering it’s from gateway. still no comparison with the iMac tho ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
One things for sure….
With the iMac, Apple has once again lead the way in designing the footprint of the modern day desktop.. First Sony, now Gateway..
And people used to say no one would buy an all in one.
Looks much better than HP’s iMac ripoff!
