“Daniel Lyons is the author of the Fake Steve Jobs blog and a columnist at Forbes. After developing a reputation for attacking bloggers, open source, and any alternatives to Microsoft, Lyons has shed his skin to escape from one scandal while at the same time squirming into position to choke the truth out of his next victim: Apple,” Daniel Eran Dilger writes for RoughlyDrafted.
“Lyons’ lack of hesitation in throwing out poorly conceived attacks is getting him into trouble again. He seems to be working frantically to spin together a bizarre new tale of how Apple is going to simultaneously be torn apart by the can-do-no-wrong Microsoft while also turning into a shadow of the evil monopolist itself, threatening us with its fearsome dominance,” Dilger writes.

oh well, idiots abound.
Daniel, Daniel, Daniel. I love your essays and commentary on all things Mac. But what part of the words “satire” and “fiction” do you not understand? Dude, it’s all a joke! The LAST place I go for news and insight is Fake Steve’s blog – I go there to get away from the noise, punditry and negativity of all the crap that passes as news, rumors and punditry.
I think you should take a stress pill and step away from your Mac for a while. You are taking this WAY too seriously.
Chill, dude. Seriously. Life’s too short to see anti-Apple conspiracies everywhere.

Why was my comment removed? What the hell?
Not only is MDN the only site that I go to that has popups (even my iPod touch tells me it’s blocking them)… they delete comments without reason.
Nice.
All I said was that this is the equivalent of a soap opera for nerds… which is correct.
I like Eran’s articles but, man, he needs to get out some. FSJ is fun reading and obviously satire. It’s amazing that he doesn’t get it.
yeah, MDN played the politically correct moderator on another post recently where people took offense to a Special Olympics remark….
We are all only human, we’re all going to die eventually, no one is above that so just get over yourselves
@Robert Tilton,
The problem is that Daniel Lyons, who is Fake Steve Jobs, when writing under his real name at Forbes, rips Apple and shills for the SCO, RIAA and Microsoft evil empires.
I don’t read FSJ blog either. Because it’s boring.
Instead, I read FSB blog. Which is veeery funny!
This is the one: http://fakesteveballmer.blogspot.com/
I was sitting in a doctor’s office the other day and my girlfriend pointed out an article in Forbes by Daniel Lyons with the headline something to the effect of, “Apple Lover Loves Vista!” He purports to be a Mac fan in the article, then states several inaccuracies about the Apple TV. One of which is that Apple TV doesn’t play back high definition. The article talks about how great Vista is, when coupled with an X-Box 360. My favorite line is where this supposed “journalist” says, “Microsoft has this stuff figured out.” What a turd!
I thought Forbes was a decent magazine, but I was ignorant.
I saw something about Daniel Lyons using Microsoft blog phrases like, “people-ready” somewhere, also.
Ugh. I haven’t been back to Fake Steve Jobs since he was outed. I won’t give him any hits. And I’ll never believe anything that comes from Forbes.
How does a publication stay in business printing, publishing, and broadcasting B.S.?
way to go MDN. Block Jesus every chance you get. by the way he posted again, please remove his comments as soon as possible.
The was a magicial time in a Mac User’s life when we would toil endlessly to discover the identity of the Fake Steve Jobs. We would stop ourselves short of discovering the truth because it would ruin the fun and mystic of the event. I’ve stopped reading the FSJ Blog because it’s no longer fun. There have been a recent downward spiral of sour essays that just ruin the event. Boo to the post-modern mind that wants to ruin the child like wonder we find in an increasingly cynical world.
@Robert Tilton and @ByeTakeCare
Obviously you two did not read Daniel Eran’s article. Eran is not criticizing Lyons’ writings as the “Fake Steve Jobs” – which obviously is satire – He’s criticizing Lyons’ writings “as himself” for Forbes magazine:
http://members.forbes.com/forbes/2007/0917/064.html
http://members.forbes.com/global/2007/1001/068.html
Eran demonstrates that Lyon’s articles in Forbes are slanted towards Microsoft and grossly distort the truth about Apple. He also points out Lyons’ long history of inaccurate reporting in the SCO situation. To quote from Eran’s piece:
“Lyons begged for forgiveness after beating on Linux users for years and glorifying a bunch of greedy SCO investors trying to exploit intellectual property rights the company didn’t even own. In describing his partnership with Rob Enderle, I downplayed his SCO role after he pleaded for evenhanded coverage of his past, noting that he did publish some correct information after the writing was on the wall for SCO.
However, for his shameless attempts to present the same kind of one-sided, half-truth, negative-spin that praises the worst corporations on Earth while reviling the only company that seems to share any interests and values in common with its customers, Lyons has lost the bits of credibility he begged to retain. Shame on him, and Zoon on Daniel Lyons’ head.”
If you read Eran’s whole piece you will find that, as usual, Eran’s arguments are well thought out and carefully crafted. For me this makes me want to take a second look at Lyon’s “Fake Steve Jobs” writings and question what his motives really are.

maniMac, what? What does exposing FSJ’s identity (unnecessary and unfortunate, I’ll agree) have to do with postmodernity? Please clarify.
For those idiots among us who think Daniel Eran is attacking the Fake Steve Jobs blog, read the phaquin’ article.
Daniel Lyons is a Microsoft fan-boy just as he once was a SCO fan-boy.
Presents were given, lies were retold.
The same old, same old.
I think Lyons is just an attention-whore first, everything else second.
@bxkbxbx
The Post-Modern world is a cynical world that likes to tear down things we build up. The exposure of the identity without the actual Fake Steve Jobs unmasking himself is an example of how our Post-Modern world works. We love to build things up so we can tear them down. There is little “magic” left in the world.
Maybe you clever folks could point me to a journalist from the tech boom era that was a non-microsoft fan-boy. So, Mr. Eran wants me to think this is news? C’mon. Who the F*&% wasn’t a MS fan-boy. They’re was freakin everywhere, especially when Apple was down. FSJ is still a fun read most of the time.
Thanks, Big Al, I was going to say something myself. Sometimes it is necessary to read the actual article.
@Jesus
no biting 🙁
please return the moniker at your soonest convenience.
thanks,
Jesus

1. Don’t critisize Forbes or any Forbes employees
2. Do not use words that Pat Robertson would find objectionable.
3. Do not directly critisize MS products (since we pay the bills)
4. Jump on Sun, pretend they are the new danger to Apple.
5. Tone down the pet-names.
6. Be politically correct!
7. Edit/monitor of comments is the responsibility of the FSJCComitte.
8. Deny that all of the above rules are true while adhering to them.

“Daniel, Daniel, Daniel. I love your essays and commentary on all things Mac. But what part of the words “satire” and “fiction” do you not understand? “
What part of the fact that Daniel Eran is an immature fanboy don’t you understand? Why would you expect any output that makes sense from his frigtard?
