“When Apple said it was going to make an announcement at the Moscone Center in San Francisco next week, it triggered an elaborate and familiar guessing game,” Sam Diaz reports for The Washington Post.
Diaz reports, “Could it be the iPhone Nano, the subject of speculation in a financial analyst’s report this summer? What about a WiFi-enabled iPod that some bloggers are buzzing about?”
“If documents prepared by an Apple partner and obtained by The Washington Post are to be believed, both of those products are in the works and slated for release in the coming months. One would be an iPod with WiFi and a touch screen like that on the iPhone; the other would be an iPhone Nano priced lower than the cheapest iPhone, which sells for $500,” Diaz reports.

The “cheapest” iPhone is $399, not $499.
Funny Store.apple.com says $499 I think your talking about refurbished units which don’t count towards being a cheaper iPhone.
Of course I rarely expect deep thought around here.
New iPods? Whatever. I hear Microsoft is crafting exciting updates to the already magnificent Zune. The best gets even better. I can hardly wait.

Good morning fellow Mac fans, Windows loving trolls and especially the good folks at MDN!
Hope you all had a great and wonderful weekend!
I for one would welcome a matte screen iMac to upgrade from the present slow one I have now.
Lets hope Apple has come to it’s senses this week.
The digital radio idea is rubbish.
Different countries use different Digital Radio standards and Apple wouldn’t get involved in this kind of mess. Also the infrastructure needed to support the “buy it now” option seems like more trouble than its worth.
Can everyone stop guessing and just wait until tomorrow. People just want to say “I told you they’d do that – I read about it ages ago”. Well GROW UP – its like a kid opening his presents a day early.
A lot of people are going to look stupid when their lame guesses are off target tomorrow.

Your fixation with matte is getting irritating.
@ Peragrin re Deep Thought
… Deep Thought is a computer that was created by a pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent race of beings to come up with the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. When, after seven and a half million years of calculation, the answer finally turns out to be 42, Deep Thought’s creators sheepishly realize that they do not know the question from whence the ultimate answer turned out to be.
… In the feature film, it appears as a large, vaguely humanoid computer, with a gigantic head supported, as if in a bored repose, by two arms. This particular version of Deep Thought likes to watch television and late in the film can also be seen to have the Apple Computer logo above its eye. This is a reference to Adams being a fan and advocate of the Apple Macintosh until his death.
IBM’s chess-playing computer Deep Thought was named in honour of this fictional computer.
P.S.
I look stupid NOW because I left my rant on the wrong thread.
I purloined all that off Wiki.
I look stupid now ALSO because I used the word purloined instead of ‘alf inched.
Dude, check out the new Brown Zunes. They’re the perfect stuff to make a new brick face for my house.
I would have thought there will be something UK related since it’s being specifically relayed there for UK journalists. iPhone? further expansion to the store?
“I hear Microsoft is crafting exciting updates to the already magnificent Zune.” – Zune Tang
Correct. Although still unable to improve function or usability, Microsoft has instead settled on ‘scented’ Zunes.
“Of course I rarely expect deep thought around here.”
That just means you need to set your expectations lower than you ever thought possible. How else can you explain people that continue to upgrade Windows and expect a better experience?
“Microsoft has instead settled on ‘scented’ Zunes.”
But for the new batch, all Zunes will be water soluble as well. This is Robbie Bach’s latest secret plan to kill the iPod with another incredibly stupid idea.
“I hear Microsoft is crafting exciting updates to the already magnificent Zune. The best gets even better. I can hardly wait.”
I guess every forum needs his idiot…
Hey, Zune! (Rhymes with “Loon”)
How’s your MSFT stock doing today? Still hovering around $28 . . . where it has been for the past seven years or so?
Thank Gawd Microsoft products are so awe-inspiring, revolutionary, and crowd-pleasing, for their STOCK sucks the proverbial big one.
With 4GB and 8GB, isn’t the iPhone already a Nano?
@NoMatteNoSale
What are you going to do, infect every thread with same wish?
I hear that BalmyBlamer’s new mansion will be built in the style of the venerable”brownstones” of the avenues. Except its facias will be brownZunes– got to find some use, (green), besides the landfills for the vast unsold stock.
MW–open– as in “it is an open question if they well need to make more zunes to fill the walls.
It will be a little disappointing is they announce that squatty iPod Nano that has been floating around.
The current form factor is pretty slick. And let’s hope they at least keep the Product Red editions around. Good cause, cool color iPod. Win-win.

What a joke. MS will not do anything until they hit the Zune sales goal goal of 1 million units sold. Yeah admittedly they are all the way to 100, maybe 150, so they are just cruisin’ but don’t hold your breath, at least for a little while
Matt Damon!
I have a thought…
Perhaps “Buy Now” could work as “Buy at Next Synch.”

matte lcds are DEAD.. get over it… you know if the color and sharpness was only say 20% better I could see keeping the matte around.. but ITS DOWN RIGHT BLURRY compared to glossy.
get over the glare.. thats the future shining in yer eye!
