EA delays Mac game titles, backtracks on simultaneous release promise

“The Mac OS X versions of two brand-new games, Madden NFL 08 and Tiger Woods 08, have been pushed back from their announced August releases to September or October, an EA representative told AppleInsider. The company, however, launched Madden NFL 08 for virtually every other platform on Tuesday,” Aidan Malley reports for AppleInsider.

“When pressed for an explanation, the EA spokesperson said there were no definitive reasons available for the delay but alluded to a possible lack of experience with Mac development. This was possibly prompted in part by the company’s years-long absence from the platform,” Malley reports.

“In speaking to AppleInsider, the spokesperson nonetheless claimed that four ports of previously released titles — Battlefield 2142, Command and Conquer 3, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Need for Speed Carbon — were already available in stores. As of press time, however, EA was unable to provide the name of a single store at which customers could purchase any of the titles,” Malley reports.

  1. EA sucks. Besides, I’ll just get the game console versions of their games if I ever want to buy one anyway. I still don’t understand why people buy computers for playing games when consoles like the PS3 and Wii are much cheaper and far more advanced for game play than any comparable PC or Mac out there is. It’s called using the right tool for the job.

  2. And these fucktard game developers wonder why their Mac titles don’t sell. Let see could it be your poorly ported titles run like shit or your Mac game titles come out a year after every other platform or could it be your poorly running year old titles cost $20 more for the Mac. Wow, I can’t see why your Mac titles do so shitty, maybe it’s your snubbing of your Mac customers.

These dumbass Mac “game developers” build in poor Mac sales themselves.

    Idiots.

  3. @Captain Huh?

I agree for some games like driving games, there’s not much difference in the computer version vs console version. But you have to realize that a lot of RPG and RTS games use the extra capabilities o the computer format (e.g. full-keyboard). There’s really no reason that they couldn’t incorporate a keyboard into a console (as has been done in the past), but today, that’s not common. These games take on a whole new depth on a computer.

It amazes me that it seems like day after day these comments are on here. Obviously, people making these statements are not computer gamers, so don’t understand the difference.

Besides, when I have a perfectly good computer, WHY, tell me, WHY, should I buy a $300 to $600 console to play games.? If I want to, sure, but I shouldn’t be forced to just because Captain Huh and others seem to think that it’s the “right tool for the job”. Computers are, by nature, quite versatile, you know.

  4. Frankly, much as I am a gamer, I don’t care much about EA’s sequels coming to mac. Besides, as a switcher and dual-booter, it’s cheaper to actually buy Winblows than overpay for a poorly designed port that crashes about every 30 minutes.

And oh yeah, there are good mac game developpers. They tend to work at Blizzard…

magic word: “instead”, as in: I’ll play a Blizzard game instead.

  5. EA is lame for announcing and promising things they can’t keep. I hope Steve Jobs gives them an ear full for that. I really thought that EA could deliver because they are so huge but there like all the rest of them. LAME!

  6. Play Station 3 = Games

    iMac = Productivity

Who spends $600 bucks for a computer that is not good enough to play games then dumps $700 in upgrades to memory, graphics, hard drive…. into it just to play a stupid game that playstation can handle for less that half of that amount.

  7. @ Chris ][

Your obviously a PC gamer more then a console gamer so your obvioulsy quite ignorant about console gaming in general.

You want to know why you would spend $300-$600 on a console? FOR THE GAMES. Consoles have 100x better quality games then PC ever will. Don’t make me list because this site doesn’t have the capacity for it.

Call me biased if you like but I’m 100% right on this and you know it. Consoles are just better for games, PC’s are great word processor’s. as Captain Huh? said, right tool for the right job.

  8. @skyfire

I never said you couldn’t buy a console and play games on it it! I

I said that if I have a PC, already, it makes sense that I should pbe able to play games on it — if I choose to!

FYI, I’m not at all ignorant about console gaming in general. Not at all. If you saw my house, and setup/collections, you’d really eat your words on that one. Your statement is actually quite funny from my perspective.

And… for you to say that you’re 100% right on this, and I know it? ell, thanks for telling me my own thoughts and opinioins, but you’re wrong about them.

This is just absolutely ridiculous. I have an opinion — an informed one. You have an opinion — an informed one, for you. And you come here, and you call ME ignorant, and wrong?

Point blank — go **** yourself and your condescending attitudes and narrowminded opinions. And the only reason I stoop to this level is because you have. Grow the heck up.

  9. @skyfire

And note that I said in my post, “why should I HAVE to buy a console”. Not “why should ANYONE buy a console”. I never said anything about consoles — I have them.

I really think you should read exactly what people say before you start calling them ignorant and wrong.

    I’m Out.
