Apple CEO Steve Jobs expected to unveil new iMacs on Tuesday

“Apple Inc. on Tuesday is expected to announce a long-awaited upgrade to its Macintosh computers,” Ben Charny reports for Dow Jones.

“Apple representatives weren’t commenting Thursday beyond saying the company has scheduled a press event for Tuesday to focus on its computer lineup, and it will feature an appearance by Chief Executive Steve Jobs,” Charny reports.

“However, it’s widely expected the company will unveil its first lineup of new iMac computers since the company initially adopted Intel Corp. processors in January 2006,” Charny reports.

“Booming sales of Macintoshes helped the company record a 73% increase in profit during its recently completed fiscal third quarter,” Charny reports.

  1. sorry one more thing! yeah please a new mac pro and cinemas and I hope that are not real that ugly keyboard that are be rumored… I expect more of apple designers…

  2. I’ll second the Mac Pro. Or at least a decent video card for the Mac Pro. The 7300 is junk. I don’t want ATI. The only choice left is the way too expensive Quadra FX 4500. Give us a good Nvidia upgrade Apple!

  3. People…it’s schooltime…those of you who are wishing for a Mac Pro may be disappointed. It’s time for a new iMac design and I hope pre-installed new iLife.
My ultimate dream with low expectations is iWork integrated into iLife plus a spreadsheet and a mini Filemaker all for $99…perfect timing…since the new Office for Mac was delayed into next year.

  4. Wow! I’m quite excited – it will make my current Intel iMac – my first Mac classic!

I think Leopard Macs (as the new iMac will be – give or take a couple of months until 10.5 launch) will be discernibly different from the Tiger Macs (Intel & PPC) we know today.

  5. I dream of an iWork with a freehand like replacement.
Oh so tired of buggy ai… oh so tired…. geez, adobe, the point is to improve the usablity of next revs of software… i guess they had to meet the Windows paradigm… sigh….

  6. NeonRed,

I know what you mean about Freehand. I was a long time Freehand guy. I had ai in case a client insisted, but hated it.

Last year or so, after Adobe bought Macromedia, I switched to Ai CS2 thinking that they would kill FH and I’d have to switch anyway. After a “VERY” long learning curve I actually like it better. Color matching and output is far better in Ai. Though some things take ten more steps than they did in FH, I’m over all happier with Ai now.

When I have to go into FH to work on old files it just seems like I’m back in the 90’s or something.

  7. The iMac is overdue for a refresh. Plus this is edu season. So I’m thinking no Pro stuff.

What about the mac mini? Dead or still alive? I wouldn’t mind picking one of those up if the processor was beefed up a bit.

MW “British” – how do they know that?

  8. I have great information from an extremely reilable source. You MAC lemmings might want to sit down for this one. Even I’m excited.

    Ready? Are you sitting.

Apple is dumping OS X for Vista. No shit. Leopard isn’t delayed MAC fans, it’s dead. Too bogged down with bug-ridden late additions to make it more Vista-like and they ain’t workin’. My source tells me Apple would have to start from scratch to save it. I say no big deal. Leopard wasn’t going anywhere anyway. It isn’t like it was going to play Half Life II or anything.

Once they got a look at Vista in Cupertino they knew they were out maneuvered by the geniuses in Redmond with Microsoft’s typical stunning innovation, attention to detail and ease of use. Nice try, Apple. Can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right?

    …it was a fscking joke…

  11. So was that. I’m surprised you can post a joke but you can’t take one, which explains your inability to compensate for your lack of humor. The immaturity that surrounds your post is unbelievably astounding. Whether you’re the Zune Tang impersonator that’s supposedly the life of the MDN party, or some other idiot who wishes he knew what he was talking about, I’d recommend thinking before posting something. No matter if Zune Tang’s posts are for the sake of humor, or are a conscious effort to insult OSX, they are idiotic either way. Have a wonderful night.

  12. It would make sense, IMO, if the new line of iMacs took their styling cues from the iPhone somehow. The G4/G5/iCD iMacs and iBooks/MBs all seem to echo the iPod after a fashion. So now that the iPod is morphing into a sub-part of this new device (iPhone), why not style the consumer line after it?

    Just thinking out loud basically.

  13. Spark,

I’m with you on Z.T. He/she is so funny. Zune, please keep up the good work that Sputnik started. This site is really informative but good old Zune has a great wit and lightens up the place a lot. Look, the guy’s isn’t a troll, he’s giving us dollops of ironic humour.

Now on to all things macs. I so hope it’s a new range of iMacs. My G5’s drive is almost worn out and I really want to get my hands on an Intel etc. iMac. However, because I’m a quarter of the way into an Australian semester I’ll have to wait until early December. Oh well at least it’ll come loaded with Leopard. Drool!

I’m betting ZuneTang was the youngest child in his family. Always had to either do something goofy, stupid or bad to gain the family’s attention that he so craved.

Years later, he’s transferred the method to meet modern technology and the broader audience it serves.

    5 cents please.

MDN Magic word: “become” it is what baby ZuneTang has become.

  15. You’re right, we haven’t seen the Mac/PC ads recently. It’s only been “All iPhone, all the time”. The same ads, over and over. We get it, the iPhone is super cool, years ahead of the rest. Now when will we see that same approach applied to the Macs? Instead of those two dorks *debating* Mac vs. PC, just show those cool Macs in action.

  16. @Raymond from DC
As an adman (madman?) I can report there is good reasoning behind Apple’s adverting saturation. We study results of our client’s advertising through ad-action and benchmark studies. It was always surprising to me that even when our client’s performed tops in blind recall (how many people thought of the client’s brand when suggested a generic product) the same study would reveal that when asked if they were familiar with the product or company, when shown our client’s ad, that a consistent 50% said NO. Amazing. There seems to be an unending supply of populace that are always “first timers” no matter how often an ad is run. Frequency is king in advertising because you’ve got to be there when a potential customer’s consciousness is open to hear the message, and that is not always the same time for all people. So while one can debate the effectiveness of an ad’s content, you can NEVER have too much frequency. There is also an effect called the Ebinghouse Curve that relates to the length of message retention over time. This also proves that the more often one views an ad the more solid the is the retention of the mention. It’s like throwing mud at a wall; initially very little sticks, but the more you throw the more it clings.

  17. I hope you are right. I’ll get a 30″ on day one.

If not, I hope they allow the new iMac to connect to the current 30″ display.

I need screen real estate more than I need speed so an iMac is fast enough for me. But I can’t give up my 30″ monitor.

Either release an iMac with a 30″ or let me hook my own up to one.
