Apple to hold Mac-related media event next Tuesday

Apple will hold a Mac-related event for media and analysts scheduled for next Tuesday, August 7th, at 10am PDT at the Apple Town Hall in Cupertino.

“Unlike past events in which the company drafted and issued digital invitations through e-mail, word of next week’s event was initially spread Tuesday afternoon via phone calls from Apple’s marketing division,” AppleInsider reports. “In speaking to journalists by phone, Apple representatives were reportedly very clear in expressing that no iPhone or iPod product announcements were in the cards… Seating is said to be extremely limited.”

  1. No iPhone… No iPod… Good! It’s Mac time at last! The rumored new aluminium iMac? An updated mini? New monitors with LED screens? Or something completely new – maybe an “el cheapo” desktop Mac? Or mayhaps iLife 07/08?

  2. This is how it was reported at MacWorld.com”

“Apple will gather select press at its company headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. next week for what it said would be a presentation focused on the Mac.

The presentation will take place on Tuesday August 7, 2007 at 10:00 am at Apple’s Town Hall, a facility that has been used to launch several products in the past including the very first iPod.”

Sounds like new Macs from this report.

  3. They are probably trying to keep it low key after the crap they got for the special media event that released the intel mac-mini and ipod hi-fi. Lots of hype over an event that really didn’t release much of anything.

  4. It could be a primer for the release of Leopard… and its relationship to an announced iMac and new monitors – with MultiTouch capabilities.

Think about it. It’s a chicken and egg situation – Apple could not release a MultiTouch Leopard with no Macs in place capable of using it – and Apple could not release MultiTouch Macs without giving the game away about Leopard’s ‘Top Secret’ feature.

So Apple’s Tuesday event will release new MultiTouch hardware AND announce the ‘Top Sercet’ feature of Leopard – with a huge ‘WOW!!!’ demo.

This will give the market a couple of months to tool up in advance with new kit ready for maximising Leopard’s revolutionary feature.

It’s also the reason for the cautious statement on next quarter’s profits – due to “product transition”.

  5. The great thing about Apple is that they are really good keeping secrets and spreading deception. The fact that this announcement could be many things and even something unexpected will give Apple lots of free publicity for the next few days.

  6. My sis is gonna be so happy I told her to wait just a couple weeks before getting a new iMac (she almost went PC *shiver*).

Wait, maybe I’ll get a new iMac, and give her my Core Duo!

@ Hg Wells: Brown? No thanks, too z00n-like. LOL

  7. “en” and “Twenty Benson” — good posts. I’m persuaded that the product transition that will slow sales has to be around multi-touch.

Consider the huge publicity that came from announcing iPhone far ahead of its availability. I say that the iMac is fully multi-touch and it won’t be available until October when Leopard debuts.

They’ll say that they’re announcing now because they will immediately begin selling iLife, which will be gloriously multi-touch. 10.4.11 will enable enough Leopardy features to make the software look great in Tiger.

Thus, many will stop buying iMacs and iLife will start a new swell of praise akin to that of iPhone.

    MW-congress…. Sorry, I got nothing.

  8. They are going to spinoff a new company called “Mac Inc.” which will make Mac computers and Mac Software…

Steve will then spend his time 24/7 playing with his iPhone, iPods, and other hobby and “Lifestyle” devices..

  9. I think there will be new iMacs, and it is probable that iLife will also be released, since it is bundled with the Mac. I think it is low key because they are all exhausted from the iPhone, and because after the iPhone, if they hype it, expectations would run so unrealistically high that the actual product announcement would fall flat. They have to underplay it to get the impact they want.

I think they say that seating is limited, not because of the smaller number of chairs, but because of the greater number of potential attendees. Apple announcements are attracting more and more attention, and it’s possible they’d run out of seats.
