Yahoo Japan replaces Sony’s Mora with Apple’s iTunes Store

“Yahoo Japan Corp. replaced a Sony Corp.-affiliated music download service with Apple Inc.’s iTunes Music Store on Thursday as the default music store on Yahoo Music Japan,” Martyn Williams reports for Digital Arts.

“The partnership means that visitors to the Yahoo Music pages now see a prominent link to iTunes in the menu bar and one-click access to the download service. Until Thursday, Yahoo Japan had relied solely on Mora, a download service run by the Sony-affiliated LabelGate Co. Ltd., for music downloads,” Williams reports.

“Access to Mora is still available through Yahoo Japan although users must log in to the site and make it their preferred music store. The iTunes link appears by default,” Williams reports.

  1. Yahoo is going with the obvious winner. They still allow you to put the other service as your default, but as a very minority person (wanting subscription or WMA files) you have to change the yahoo default yourself.

    Just good business. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  2. I really am down on Sony. I used to buy their TV’s and camcorders and wouldn’t buy anything else. Now, it’s like they’re just floating.

It may sound strange, but when they discontinued the Aibo, it soured me on them. Sony was doing something that made them seem interesting as a company. Kind of like Honda and the Asimo. Oh, well!

  3. I once swore by Sony for home electronics, but the last DVD changer I bought from them is rather a pile. You have to dig through menu settings to play CD tracks on “random”, and random does not work for MP3 CDs across multiple disks. The UI is just terrible, even for the average Japanese electronics, never mind what we’ve come to expect from Front-Row.
They just aren’t what they used to be.

  4. Never Liked Sony till PS2…
I’ve always thought Sony products were overpriced for what you get.
Their stereos sucked. Their TVs were just okay.
I do like the PS2 and PS3 (just have to save my pennies for the PS3).

  5. Is anybody else, noticing that apple is working with yahoo alot, recently with the iphone, new safari browser and itunes??

Looks like another partnership!! which would help with ichat, if they mirrored yahoo! as they have the largest user base!

Wonder what the impact would be if microsoft took them over as planned? Or if apple took them over, how google and apple/yahoo could benefit each other!!!

Only asking because everyone is on the google train! why they working with yahoo!!!

  6. I used to be a Sony fanboy. Never quite to the extent of which I am for Apple, but a fanboy nonetheless.

I still buy Sony products, but I do not have quite the loyalty that I once did. Although, I do have a big-ass SXRD Sony 55″ TV and PS3 in my living room at the moment.

The whole rootkit fiasco soiled them for me. I buy their products, because I like them, but I’m not so much a fan of the company any longer.

  7. ZT: Thanks for the Yahoo Japan iTunes link. That was interesting.

“I just sent a Zune to my cousin in Osaka. He loves it and the super Zune Marketplace integration.”

If you’re going to lie at least make it plausible, ya little freak!

    From the Zune Marketplace website:
Is Zune available in my country/language?
Zune is currently only available in the U.S. in English.

  8. Sony is the M$ of the electrionics industry and their declining rapidy. their stuff is expensive They tried to force built-in DRM into their DVD players – they won’t play region free DVD’s.They tried to force their stupid memory stick on the consumer and that didn’t work. They’re like the Titanic – they just don’t know it.

  9. Gosh Zune Twat, that is sooooooo whatever.

What’s the matter your cousin could not buy a Zune in Osaka? Oh I guess not.

For once I think we owe you some thanks. By sending your cousin a Zune in Osaka, no one can argue that the iPods are a monopoly there. That is a great relief.

    Your bullshit. Our winners.™
