  1. God that brings back memories.

Whatever happened with that company? Did Aol destroy them?

My earliest memories of the internet a filled with netscape. With the internet boom, its a amazing how fast this Co. vanished.

  2. I am feeling nostalgic tonight. I care about Netscape because it’s one of my first browsers (aside from Mosaic).

Perhaps I’m just feeling this way because I just had a conversation with my wife and gave her permission to have s e x with another guy. I’m feeling pretty wired right now. Hope it works out/ Kinda like, if you love them, set them free.

  3. Still trying to think of a clever [lame] way to tie this in to some obscure [and likely very poor] joke about that car company selling their brand name SUV to some software engineers and being perplexed why no one wants to drive it anymore…

    Oh, well, it’s late.

MadMac – gotta agree – that was way beyond messed up. Run, don’t walk, and get some help. Please.

Netscape is now from Mozilla – the same folks that made FireFox and Camino, as well as a bunch of other software.

Three different browsers, three different architectures, three different design philosophies.
FireFox – universal, for Mac, Linux, Windows
Camino – mac only, and better for it
Netscape – still bloated after all these years

    Take your pick.

  5. Interesting things today with the new Netscape beta and Marc Andreesen switching to Mac. You may hate Netscape, or you may not think that it matters, but Netscape was the next big thing before MS illegally used their monopoly status to crush Netscape. Navigator was a great browser before they bloated it out. It was far superior to IE. Unfortunately, as MS has done so often, they crushed a good company. It ended up as part of AOL, RIP…

My first internet browsing was using the text-based Lynx. My first web page was built in 1992, back when we built them using text editors with straight HTML, well before animations, plugins, Java, style sheets, etc. Netscape Navigator was a dream app back then – it amazed people! I had used Mosaic (also built mostly by Andreesen) and Netscape was far superior to that!

Ahh, those were the days! I may need to download the beta version just for nostalgic reasons!
