  1. rimglow – You can’t convert them per se, but I seem to remember Apple said you would be able to buy the same songs you own in the new format for 30 cents — the same total price as if you had bought the higher-quality DRM-free ones in the first place. (Haven’t installed iTunes 7.2 yet, so I don’t know if this feature is still there or how to use it.)

  2. It seems that DRM-free will cost ya 30 cents extra, @ $1.29/song. So when Apple moves the whole industry towards that standard, the songs won’t be any different than they are today, and they will be easier to encode and distribute for the company, but Apple will be making more, without having to pay DRM fees. Or does that extra 33 percent go to the music industry again?

It takes time for products and services to evolve. Give Apple credit for their success with incremental advances to the iPod and iTunes. And you should also give credit to Apple for influencing the major labels on pricing and DRM.
