In the list of Mac OS X Automator Actions that shipped as part of the Apple TV software, a few new actions stand out, Carl Howe reports for SeekingAlpha.
Howe explains that the interesting thing is that the published Automator Actions for Apple TV include:
• New Audio Capture
• New Video Capture
• Start Capture
• Pause Capture
• Stop Capture
Howe writes, “Sure sounds like someone at Apple has plans for Apple TV to grow Digital Video Recorder [DVR] functions.”

MacDailyNews Note: In the Apple TV User’s Guide, Apple currently states that the device’s USB port is “for service and diagnostics.” A simple firmware update could easily cause that portion (and others) of the Apple TV User’s Guide to be revised.

“Remember Firewire was created because USB 1 was extremely slow and didn’t serve the video professionals need.”
Wrong. Firewire was created by Apple independently of USB.
1995 — Firewire
1996 — USB
1998 — original iMac — first use of USB by Apple
1998 — G3 blue tower — first use of Firewire by Apple
Which AppleTV Software ???

” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”ohh” style=”border:0;” />
Dang, did I throw away a CD with the packaging ???
Or were these Actions part of the iTunes/Quicktime update ?
With respect to USB and FireWire, I believe that Apple is just skating to where the puck is going to be.
AppleTV only needs 2 of the 3 things below for me to buy one….
1. iTunes Movie subscription service. I don’t want to rent my music but I don’t want to own every movie I watch.
2. DVR capabilitites. I would love to see what the UI on an AppleDVR would be like.
3. DVD or BlueRay drive. That way I can get rid of my dvd player.
If Apple provides just 2 of these 3 and I will buy one. Instantly.
Magic Word: EYE. As in “I’m keeping my eye on AppleTV”

The software on the drive.
Google, you’ll get it.
OK – I see all the possibilities of DVR, VOD etc.
I love it! I’ve been fooling around with stuff for quite a while on MACs and PCs. I have a bunch of both – BUT.
The question I have is – how long can the internet providers for the average Joe Public continue to supply the incredible amount of bandwidth that will be required to support all of this?
All the fancy hardware and software won’t mean squat if you can’t get the data in the first place.
This is bullshit,
Automator has had those actions for ages, they are part of quicktime.
NEXT !
They are listed in my Automator and it has never seen TV. From Automator…
New Audio Capture
This action opens a new QuickTime audio recording window.
Input: (Anything)
Result: (Anything)
Related Actions: Pause Capture, New Video Capture, Start Capture, Stop Capture
Automator also has “Ask for Movies”. Maybe something with Jessica Alba in a skimpy outfit, no Nicholas Cage or Pauly Shore, some cool special effects and an intelligent screenplay with a believable plot? It said I could ask.
Oooo,,, my TiVo’s getting a little nervous… NOT
“I guess Apple considers FireWire as viable only for the select, the Mac users, not the unwashed masses.”
Firewire now falls into the category of legacy interfaces like rs-232 and parallel ports.
