  1. Not that I particularly care…

But Michael Dell was Keynoting at CES this morning at 9:00am – for some reason I cant find a word anywhere on whatever it was he wanted to say… not one single report in any of the tech news sources I monitor… no coverage at all

  2. Can’t download the keynote, what? With such a small market share??? No problems with connecting to dull or microshaft. Not a lot of interest in their new stuff, people just wait to be spoon fed cheap, pre-loaded, boxes. Those who know please get off the line so I can see the Stevie, ta.

  3. I am going to yell next, so please forgive me in advance.

WHY CAN’T I DOWNLOAD A STAND ALONE QT FILE OF THE KEYNOTE!!!!

I want to download the keynote, not stream it to my computer. If I can download it, I can play it back without lost packets and I can burn it to a DVD for my brother (pc user) to watch.

  4. download perfect without problem
i mean the keynote mwsf – here in spain
    see it quiet now perfect
aaaand will be one of the first here in spain (Canary Islands with an iphone , Apple TV and Air Port n )
Thank You Steve………….Thank You again and again

  5. Several things I noticed or have come to notice while watching:

    • New Keynote effects were showed off today- indicating that an ’07 upgrade is coming, it just hasn’t been announced yet.

    • A good reason why Leopard or the iApps weren’t shown off today may be because alot of the new stuff was in the iPhone. Think about it. Lots of Core Animation, lots of black glass-type objects, more eye candy, new icons. AND if it only takes 2 months to get FCC approval, then wouldn’t it be out in March or April (taking into account production time)? Could it be that they’re waiting until after the Leopard release so that all the new UI and features aren’t spoiled? And surely if Leopard is coming out this year, wouldn’t all the iApps feature an updated UI that is similar to Leopard? It’s just a thought, but looking at the screenshots from the Leopard Beta, a lot of OS X on the iPhone bears a significant resemblance to the new elements in 10.5.

    • The next iPod will more than likely have a similar interface to the iPhone, or maybe a way to “toggle” between that and a virtual click wheel; Apple has the patents and the tech.– not to mention the know-how and design staff- all they need now is to release it as a non-phone.

    • Apple, Incorporated sounds good when you say Incorporated instead of Inc.

    • Steve did say that 3G was on the way, so anyone unsure about the 3G thing, it’s not impossible that it will be there someday. And Cingular was selected because they are the biggest network; the more people already there, the easier it will be to buy the phone + contract.

    • There is absolutely no way that Apple could ever, eeeeveerrrr stop their computer thing. The name change makes sense, just like changing iTMS to iTS made sense– they didn’t just sell music. Well Apple clearly doesn’t just make computers anymore, do they? Now, regarding the whole doom and gloom over Apple abandoning the Mac and OS X and all that crap: this is never going to happen. THink about it for a second people (here, I’ll mentally draw you a picture…)

    • 6+ years of development of OS X (not to mention the decades of the Classic Mac OS and NeXTSTEP)
    • The switch to Intel
    • The HUGE developer support for 10.5 (the largest yet)
    • Promoting the Mac, Mac OS, and things like that (AND retail)
    • Their enterprise and server options (which people seem to forget)
are very important to anyone who uses them.
    • Over a decade of internal hardware/software development (this
    includes NeXT as well)

If Apple were to stop doing the whole computer thing, All of the above, and much much more, would be worthless, lost, and just think of the mass amounts of riots that would ensue!

All of the money invested. All of the work. Gone. That’s right, just take the one thing that’s kept this company strong for 30 years and get rid of it all. That’s just stupid.

Could it just be, that today Steve just felt like talking about this, and not Leopard, not iLife, iWork, new Cinema Displays, a new iPod, an 8 Core Mac Pro (even though there are [virtually] no apps that would be able to take advantage of all 8 of them), or anything else? Can’t a man make a decision and not be scrutinized for it?

In my personal opinion, I would like to see an entire day devoted to talking about Leopard. I would rather wait for the right time to show off something Insanely Great™ than rush to show off something half assed and unfinished.

I said this about the Intel switch 2 years ago- “Steve & Co. are not stupid- they know what they’re doing. Obviously they have a plan of action that– at the moment, we cannot see, but will be realized within the coming months.”

And I like to think that I was right. I’m applying the same idea for this.

Wow… I feel so much better!

  6. I watched the keynote in its entirety. It’s a very entertaining keynote, if a little bit long. What bothers me is that it streams, and for some reason those streaming key notes eventually lose sync between the audio and video – at least for me they do. And the further into the presentation you get, the further the drift. It gets pretty annoying in the last third.

Why don’t they just post it as a regular QT file for download I wonder? Strange.

And to all the people that had Steve Jobs on his death bed, wrong again. He looked great. And the scrolling feature on that phone is just awesome.

  7. Ozzycross101:
Leopard didn’t air today because Apple doesn’t want to share airtime with Microsoftie. Why cloud the iPhone with the usual he said/he said. Come out with a great product with pizzaz without having to share free ad time with a behemoth competitor.

  8. OzzysCross101: Could it be that they’re waiting until after the Leopard release so that all the new UI and features aren’t spoiled?

I doubt that is the reason. At some point, Apple must show the new features and UI before the release of Leopard to get developers ready, or else no apps take an advantage of the features in Leopard when it’s out. Also, it’s not certain that Leopard will be released in June.

  9. OzzysCross101: Super post, a nice change from some of the depressing drivel I’ve already read today. I agree that theres no chance of Apple exiting the computer business. They’re too f*****g good at it for gods sake.

  10. MacMan: True, it would’ve been crappy to share some airtime with M$, but Apple does it every year. CES and MW usually coincide, and every year Steve blows anything M$ does away. Nonetheless I still do see your point.

Plus, showing off Leopard just before or just after the “official” release of Vista would be a much deeper cut delivered to M$.

../: I don’t think Leopard will be released in June either. No doubt that the UI and new features will be released to devs and shown off for us users soon enough. But what I was saying is that maybe they were looking to make the Leopard release and iPhone release a little closer together. (ie. If the iPhone came out in March, and then Leopard came out in April, with a lot of similar or the same UI elements, it would be more predictable and less surprising).

Definitely, the devs need to see the UI and features soon, which is why I feel like the whole story doesn’t end at MW. In typical Jobsian fashion, Steve has left us wondering what the next thing up his sleeve is.

The Mac and OS X are still the core of Apple (no pun intended). They won’t turn their back on it– today was just not the time to talk about it. Big deal. It’s not they’re going anywhere. And neither are we.

MW: Speaking of Steve’s sleeves, did you notice he was back to the black turtleneck?
