Amazon leaks iLife 07, iWork 07

“Apple’s beans have been spilled, and it’s all Amazon’s fault. They’ve posted placeholder pages on their online megastore advertising two new Apple products: iLife 07 and iWork 07,” T3 reports.

T3 reports, “It’s sure to steal some of Steve Jobs’ thunder as he prepares to reveal all on Tuesday, including new devices, possible Mac updates and brand new software.”

“Amazon frequently posts placeholders for unreleased products and these do not necessarily correlate with actual released dates. For example, Amazon already has Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard listed as well,” arn explains for Mac Rumors.

  1. Please everyone knows that iLife and iWork 07 are going to be available this month. I’m holding off on an mini for my wife until it comes with iLife 07. I’m looking forward to a much improved iWeb app.

  2. It’s hardly going to be a big suprise that Apple are going to launch these products at some point seeing as they’re released and named based upon yearly iterations. It would have stolen their thunder if they’d released a date and specs – which they haven’t.

  3. If the parts of iLife ’07 – especially iPhoto and iMovie – don’t finally address the very many bugs and long standing problems that plague faithful users of these programs like me, I’m going to lead the crowd of SWITCHERS going in the other direction.

NOTICE to APPLE: get it fixed, get it right, listen to your customers, or suffer the consequences!

  4. i wouldn’t really call this a leak. if there were shots of the boxes or contents (spreadsheet in iwork, new app or significant new features in ilife) then that would be a leak, but ilife and iwork always get updated around now, so what’s the big deal?

  5. That’s right, you’re going to switch back to Windows because of problems in iLife, and use their suite of applications.

What? There is no comparison to iLife on Windows? O, well you’re screwed then.

  6. Derrr… iLife 06 being replaced with iLife 07.
Doesn’t exactly tell you anything more than Apple have switched to a ‘voluntary’ yearly licence fee arrangement.
The ‘what’s in it to make the re-purchase of the software a must have, is the $64,000 question.

  7. So refresh my memory…

Once iLife 07 is announced on Tuesday, will it be included with any Macs ordered following the announcement? I’m holding out for my MBP until then (hoping for some late Christmas gifts from my folks to be Apple Gift Cards), and I’d LOVE to have the latest version of the suite.

I just can’t recall how it has worked in the past…

  8. “Placeholders”? This is someone’s personal goof and ranks as little better than an un-attributed rumor!

I “knew” iLife ’07 was going to be announced at MWSF ’07 before I got my hands on one of the first copies of iLife ’06! And I was almost as certain about the arrival of iWork ’07 at the same time. It took me several weeks to be certain that iWeb would get a significant upgrade with that package and that GarageBand would get a number of podcast-related “feature updates” as well. The others … I’m less clear on where they are going/ought to go.

I’d really, really like a hint at what the new/improved features will be, but I can wait for that. Anxiously, but waiting.

  9. This is hardly “BIG News”.

iLife has been updated every year since, what, iLife ’04? iWork is cast from a similar mold.

The news would be a new spreadsheet included in iWork.

I’d like to switch from AppleWorks to Pages, but the current version is pretty sluggish on my 1.67 PowerBook G4. I’ve played with it a bit and it’s pretty nice, although version 2 seems more like a 1.0 product. So, if Pages gets a serious update (speed increased, symbol library, etc.), then it would be worth it.

My concern about Apple applications is that once they’re released, aside from compatibility patches and bug fixes, they tend to languish. Think of AppleWorks, iCal, all the old Claris applications,etc..

  10. Duh!! Macworld has been and is about iLife and iWork.
This is the year 2007. Amazon put 1+1 together. iLife ’07 and iWork ’07. Duh again!
This discussion is a waste of typing carbs, screen vision. and oxygen.
Even trashing Zung Tang is a better use of our time than this topic.

  11. Ready and Sam, what are your problems? The vast majority of people who use this suite of programs have few problems with any of it. You get five programs for under $20 each and each is comparable to various Windows software costing maybe twice that.
iMovie may have a few bugs, it has also helped win prizes for its users and helped many cut four boring hours of vacation video down to under half an hour of something folks will sit through.
GarageBand … this I use for ~4 hours a week – is pretty sturdy and fairly intuitive. Check out the Pod Cast I do with it.
iPhoto can stand up to most folks’ needs.
iWeb isn’t exactly ‘broken’ so much as hobbled … but it works well for the newbie “web designers” it was intended for.
iDVD … never used it, is it ‘broken’?
These are not intended to be “Pro” apps, yet some are certainly ‘close enough’ if you are on a strict budget. “Ready”, please make good on your threat … you need a serious dose of “reality”. “Sam”, they ‘Just Work’ for me, which suggests the problem is you.

  12. Everyone already knew updates to iLife and iWork were going to be announced at MacWorld. I am sure Apple will slap Amazon on the wrist though.

iMovie better support USB2 input and AVCHD or I’ll be one unhappy customer. AVCHD is the new format that all the HDD-based HD camcorders are using. Apple needs to keep up with the technology. Who still uses the old DV format and waits around for real-time data transfer via firewire?

  13. Holy freaking crap!! A brand new version of iLife and iWork?!?!?!?! What an astounding scoop! I would never have imagined in a million years that Apple would release a routine upgrade to two software suites!! My hands are shaking at the enormity of this astounding news! I have to call all my friends and tell them!!

Was that sarcastic enough? ‘Cuz I was really trying.

  14. This is news? Would anyone be bent out of shape if Amazon used a placeholder to announce that Season 3 of “Lost” will be out in September? (which it probably will be) Isn’t that the next “version” of that show? Isn’t it reasonable to assume it’ll be out about the time of Season 4’s premier? Or would that be stealing the thunder from ABC being able to announce the DVD availability? Must really be a slow news day.
