Vincent Nguyen, who earlier posted what may be a leaked photo of Apple’s mobile phone on aMobileME.com, claims to have received a second image from an anonymous source.
Nguyen writes, “Hopefully this second image will help answer questions about the bottom half of the touch pad.”
Along with the image, Nguyen also received this info:
touch pad has backlight possibilities to show click wheel, Numbers or other input-interface… or just a track pad…

Why is the middle column of numbers lower than the other two?
Judging from a closer look, the “keys” are photoshopped into the picture.
Besides that it would be impractical and there is no really practical (LCD) technology to realize this kind of touch pad in this way. If it was to do that, the whole design would be realized in a completely different way.

It must be a fake. Every time a product is on the horizon, we get all the fake shots of it being posted and I can’t remember a single instance where we’ve seen a true ‘sneek peek’ of any Apple product before it was unveiled. Just on the balance of probability, it’s a fake.
if this pic is real maybe they wanted the #5 to be centered within the scroll wheel i mean its only a theory whether it makes any since or not and there are some Motorola phones that have the same button layout so it may not be fake. I do think its fake but if not I will be purchasing this sometime in the not so distant future.
I must agree that it’s a fake, but only because of a usability issue. Lots of people punch phone numbers into their cell phones without looking at the keypad. This phone would require users to look at the keypad as they dial numbers, which seems like a step backwards in usability, and therefore not very Apple.

Now it’s obvious it’s a fake. First, the whole switiching between a keypad/scrool wheel thing would be too complex for a backlight (an LCD, maybe – but not a backlight). Second, why would the ‘buttons’ have letters on them when it’s already been suggested that the alphabet is shown on screen. Finally, it’s obvious the keypad is superimposed from another model because the vertical row beginning with ‘2’ is positioned slightly lower in relation to the rows on either side. This is a common feature of existing phones which have some sort of circular input just below their screen – but which obviously the ‘iPhone’ doesn’t.

It’s exactly the same shot as the previous one. Same song, tracking is in the same place. Just the super-imposed keypad and scroll wheel.

What are the chances that Apple would use a (different) Zero 7 tune, just like the fake (really cool) iPhone video that was flying around last year?
Just like every other picture of a rumored Apple product, we will only know it’s real when Apple legal shuts it down.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a Photoshopped image or not, even a bad one. It could be a mockup. If Apple’s ad agency of record is indeed producing iPhone ads, they coul be working with FPO (For Position Only) non-final art. Heck, they may not ever even SEE the final art before it runs in a magazine or on a billboard. The printer can just throw in the final art at the 11th hour.
As far as the middle row of buttons being lower than the others, chances are they are on your phone too. Take a look.
I hope this is someones picture that they fixed up in Photoshop cause the click wheel is off centered in this picture.

I smell fake ! If you examine the usability, you would scroll on the keypad, but use the touch screen for pause/ fast forward/ etc ?
Not likely, I’m not fooled.
One thing that everyone is overlooking is the fact that this particular phone concept would be very uncomfortable to use. There is a sharp edge along the top that would ostensibly be pressed against the cartilage of one’s ear. Ouch! Try hold an iPod mini or iPod nano in a phone-use position and see how it feels.
That edge has to be contoured.

I don’t know or care if this is fake or not, but it IS within the realm of possibility and dovetails with knowledge of technology that Apple has been working on.
First, the offset middle row on a standard buttons is to provide eyes-free tactile feedback on thumb position on the keypad. How that could be of any use on a flat trackpad doesn’t make a lot of sense to me unless Apple has figured out a way to provide a bump on the screen for a point of reference.
A chameleonic control screen that is contextual to current device function is exactly the type of new paradigm I expect Apple to deliver.

Scroll wheel isn’t even centered. It’s closer the the left side of the track pad/phone.
One other thing…
Even very real products have simulated pictures photoshopped onto the screens. The lighting needed to shoot the hardware normally washes out LCD screens. I’ve done this many times as part of my ad business, so don’t discount the reality of the product just because the screen image doesn’t look quite “real”.

Which inadvertently proves what I stated above: It would look very differently and it would have a very different functional design.
I’d also agree that several details about the presentation are rather “un-Apple”, inconsistent and unergonomical.
All the wiggling around only underscores the fact that it’s an attempt at a fake.

The problem for me is that unless Apple’s design TOPS the famous iTalk video, then it’d be a disappointment. I don’t think the phone shown above is the final design. Or I hope it isn’t. It looks OK, but, aagin, it’s no iTalk.

I think you’ll find it’s a good way to generate hits on your site, draw attention to something else you’re doing, or just for plain notoriety.

I say, it’s fake. No way would apple design the number buttons like that. Why would there be a circular track pad inside a square track pad? that’s just stupid. You can still use the big square pad like a circular pad. To keep within the apple design, they’d probably keep the big button in the middle.
Plus the numbers are printed oddly.
I don’t doubt there is an iPhone…just don’t think that this is what it’ll look like.

I really hope Apple’s legal department is on the ball with filing patents for these concepts… The pre-publication of these photos and video could seriously weaken Apple’s Patent portfolio unless their attroney’s have already filed applications for these features.
