  1. @MacLover

Would it make sense if ever ad talked about the same piece of the user world, what about the “just got back for a business meeting” ad? Obviously not talking about 10 year olds was it, but this is the time of year parents will be buying presents, lots of them, for kids, right?

  2. Yeah, I was underwhelmed by this batch. Particularly Justin Long’s absence of any kind of emotion. It’s as if Macs don’t give a sh*t…about anything really. I dunno, I thought the earlier ones tended to be pretty funny, but this crew just didn’t tickle the funny bone.

  3. I’ve been eyeing that myself… [the C++ GUI programming guide]. This is not a mass ad but one targeted to – dare I say it? – the faithful and/or developers? Mac fans get it: Windows GUI sucks; they need to study up on it. But the masses? The dig at Windows weakens the iLife message a tad.

Buy a PC. Buy a PC… Again a very subtle mention of iLife but then the dig at PCs hits PC marketing while touting the current sales of Macs. This one seems targeted at recent converts and die-hard Mac fans; not the masses.

I have to go listen to some ’emo’… A good keyword for targeting kids/teens.

All three ads end with a picture of an iMac, and seem to be trying to get Mac users – or recent Mac converts – to get an iMac [or an additional Mac] for the family this quarter, while reinforcing the usual campaign themes (cool/uncool; powerful/complex; easy to use/taxing). I rate ’em a B, B-, A-.

Subliminal message depends on whether you are a “Yeah, thank heavens I’m a mac user” or “Dang, the mac seems to be on a roll. Where is Vista?”

The first one is guaranteed to make Vista/Zune coders chuckle at their employers.

  4. For the love of all that is creative Apple, SHOW THE PEOPLE ILIFE!!!!

If I wasn’t a Mac user, these commercials would give me a chuckle and I’d turn the channel.

Show me something that makes the PC look boring and bland – let’s see iLife on the TV screen! Ordering a photo album! Making a tune in Garageband! Exporting a playlist to my iPod with iTunes! Making a family DVD with iDVD!

    PLEASE!!!!!! Show me the goods!!!

MDN Magic Word: “soviet” as in “In Soviet Russia, Emo music listens to you!”
