Not sitting around doing nothing: ‘iPhone’ could add billions to Apple’s revenue

“Apple Computer Inc., known for its secrecy about new products, has given the strongest signal yet it’s working on an iPod phone that analysts said could be released early next year,” Bloomberg News reports.

“‘The biggest part of (Wednesday’s) call was the iPhone,’ said Piper Jaffray Co. analyst Gene Munster, based in Minneapolis. ‘It was the closest we could get to the announcement of a new product from Apple.’ An iPod phone may be released in the first half of 2007, Munster said. Merrill Lynch & Co. analyst Richard Farmer pegged the release in the first quarter,” Bloomberg News reports.

“‘The company is investing heavily in iPod and iTunes engineering and is very enthusiastic about its products in the pipeline,” Oppenheimer said. The mobile-phone market may approach 1 billion units in 2008, Merrill’s Farmer said. Every 1 percent share of the market Apple captures could add as much as $3 billion to the company’s sales, Farmer told clients in a note Thursday after raising his rating on Apple shares to ‘buy.’ That’s based on a device that will sell for about $300, the New York-based analyst said,” Bloomberg News reports.

  1. dell = warned about pc sales.
apple = missed on revenues but exceeded profit expectations

apples profits came from = ipods again, not computers.

    what does this tell you?

easy… pc sales are on the decline, dont expect a HALO effect.

  2. Mr. Peabody-

That’s the sucky life you signed up for when you decided to live in rural America!

Move to a city, with the other human beings. Walk to the Apple store. Take in a foreign film. Look at some art. Catch a play. Rummage through an independent bookstore. Eat food not mass-produced by a big-box restaurant corporation. Sell your car. Call your rural friends on your iPhone.

  3. Definitely a potential buyer here if these things turn out to be as cool as I expect. hurry up Apple, but don’t rush ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  4. “While a nice ipod and phone would be nice, I don’t even think I’d buy it for the mp3 part of it. I just want a nicely designed phone that works nicely with Mac OS X. Even the “nice” phones that we have now feel junky.”

  5. Heroin
Go hiking, canoe a river, see the stars, hear a woodpecker, a whippoorwill,or a REAL panther. Know your neighbors, grow a garden, let you kids walk to school. I’ve lived in the city AND down on the farm. I love both. Just not some of the smug assholes that invade each.

  6. Hey, those are nice reasons to visit nature. Too bad it will be paved over to make room for a Chili’s, Best Buy and a Super Wal-Mart along with the rest of the sprawl destroying this country.

  7. Heroin
I like Chili’s food, Best Buy electronics, and Wal Marts prices. I don’t pretend to be above them. What are you doing to save the world from this scourge? I’m sure you WALK to the NATURAL food store on your way to DONATE blood and help at the CRISIS center. Wait, how can you do all that and afford a Mac? Also, the main thing I see destroying this country are elitist attitudes, not the economy(stupid).

  8. Every cell phone on the market sucks in some way, and there are many, many integration opportunities with the computer being missed.

I really hope Apple is going to release the phone which does for the cell phone market what the iPod did for the MP3 player market.

I’d love to finally own a phone which pulls out all of the features I don’t care about, notably camera, carrier branding, pushing me to download ring tones in the primary interface, etc.–and adds features I want: longer battery life, better reception, better integration to my computer, etc.
