Exclusive: Apple Retail Store planned for Albuquerque, New Mexico

Several job listings have appeared on Monster.com this morning for positions in an Apple Retail Store slated for the ABQ Uptown “shopping destination” that’s under development in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (Note: “ABQ” is the code for the city’s airport and also a colloquialism for the city.) Albuquerque straddles the Rio Grande and is the largest city in the state of New Mexico. The city proper had a total population of 448,607 (as of the 2000 census) and metropolitan area has a population of approximately 715,000 and includes the city of Rio Rancho, the third-largest and fastest-growing city in New Mexico and one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

Apple currently does not have any retail stores in the state of New Mexico.

Monster.com lists “ABQ Uptown” in the Apple Retail Store job descriptions here.

ABQ Uptown includes residential units (rental/for sale), office space, retail, hotel, restaurants and entertainment venues in a high-density urban context. The first phase retail component currently under construction. ABQ Uptown’s online store directory does not yet list Apple Computer. And Apple’s own Retail Store pages make no mention of an Albuquerque location… yet. A search of Apple’s online Job openings likewise shows nothing regarding retail store positions in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

You can watch ABQ Uptown’s construction progress via live webcam here.

[UPDATE: 12:52pm EDT: Pulled the “as-yet-unannounced” phrase as even we couldn’t understand it after looking at it more closely. But, you know what we meant.]

    Racist much?

  3. “Finally Bugs Bunny will be able to go to an Apple store.”

Forget Bugs, I’LL be able to go!!! I’m going to try to get a part time job there just for the discount!

Several months ago someone named “Albuquerque Deep Throat” said that there was an Apple Store coming to the ABQ Uptown plaza. He nailed it.

Apple is going for the $$$$ and market share, good for them.

hei story, read more than just the comics section of the news papers!

    What an ignorant schmuck!

  6. Yes! As a longtime mac user 1987
and navite New Mexican – not Mexican you dolt- I am thrilled. Every time I take a trip that includes a city with an Apple store you will find me there.
New Mexico has lots of Mac Users – big MUG in Santa Fe and home of Robin
Williams who has written lots of great mac books

  7. “Ndelc – I would trade you one of our Apple Stores (we have 2 here in Denver) for one of your Trader Joe’s stores. We can’t get them here.”

You have a deal Jimbo. We’re getting another Trader Joe’s on the west side. It’s yours for another Apple Store!

Actually I’m surprised it’s taken them this long considering this part of New Mexico is referred to as “Silicon Mesa”. We have a huge Intel plant in Rio Rancho, and a big AOL call center, Philips has a large facility, and Los Alamos Labs is just 70 miles north of here. We’re not far from the future SpacePort either!
