“Apple Computer chief executive Steve Jobs this month used over 4.5M of the 10M restricted shares owed to him by the company to pay income and other employment taxes applicable to those shares,” Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider. “He did not sell any of his stake in the company.”
“In order to meet his tax obligations on the 10M restricted shares, which vested this month, Jobs elected to net-share settle — essentially allowing Apple to withhold and pay to authorities the portion of the 10M shares that would meet his tax payment requirements,” Jade reports. “On March 19 — the date of the transaction — this portion amounted to 4,573,553 shares at $64.66 a share, or a whopping $295.7M tax payment. Apple then turned over to Jobs the remaining 5,426,451 shares, which at the close of the market on Friday were worth about $325.4M. The value of the withheld shares ($295.7M) will be turned over to the appropriate tax authorities.”

and they say tax cuts help only the rich. Guess why. The poor pay hardly any taxes.
Eh?
First (and probably last) post…
Uncle Sam is dancing a jig
I guess it will take some more selling of iPods before Apple has enough money to fix the Meta File exploit.
Macbones,
You should be ashamed of yourself, reading obscure and tedious posts such as this. Heavens knows I am.
I’m going to bed.
Not quite…
MDN Magic Word: “fine”, as in it is NOT fine for anyone to have to pay that much in taxes. Or as in what a high fine for great work…
just think if Al Gore was President, he would have paid about $600M in taxes.
Dear GWB,
Thanks!
Love Steve
WOW
…a rather unusual botnet consisting of computers running Mac OS X and Linux operating systems…
My Mac was part of a bot net just temporirily, my cable modem lights was blinking in the middle of the night. I installed Apple’s “Big Top” which has a outgoing packet recorder which I recorded unusual outgoing activity at set times of the night.
I promply booted from a install disk, zeroed the hard drive and did a fresh install and update. Then I changed my ip address with my service provider.
Now I keep a configuration cloned on a external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
7th post!
I bet GW is happy. That will pay for about five minutes of the ongoing war in Iraq

“and they say tax cuts help only the rich. Guess why. The poor pay hardly any taxes.”
please define “poor”
i earn only 60k & consider myself “poor”; financially, i’m a lot closer to a bum on the streets, than i am to steve.
and i don’t have several hundred million left after taxes.
simple solution to the problem. raise taxes on minimum wage earners.
Yeah – or we could give to big government to spend on useless welfare pork projects.
You are rich if:
1: You can eat just about whatever food you want, anytime you want.
2: You have a comfortable place to sleep every night.
3: You have your health.
4: You have a job that gives you a purpose in life.
5: You have people around you that love you.
6: You have clean clothes to wear.
7: Your not living in fear.
8: You have a special someone who you share your life and soul with.
If you have all these things your rich. There are a lot of people who are rich with wealth but don’t have one or more of these things, they are miserable.
There are people here with the badest Mac and 30″ Apple makes, but they are unhappy.
The ultimate pork project: The Iraq War
Yes, tax those living on minimum wage! Because not yet enough of a pain in the ass to pay for rent, food, electricity and phone living off of minimum wage! Idiots
UnixGuy, You nailed it on the head about whats important. As far as the comment from Cato….its worth about a quart of hot brown butt mud,
Oops, forgot a word. It should read:
Because it’s not yet enough of a pain in the ass to pay for rent, food, electricity and phone living off of minimum wage!
“As far as the comment from Cato….its worth about a quart of hot brown butt mud…”
Why? Because (s)he is right?
BTW: Why is it such a big deal on what Steve does with his stocks?
What? You cant figure it out?
“just think if Al Gore was President, he would have paid about $600M in taxes.”
-Yeah, and my kid’s future public school wouldn’t be shutting down, either.

Good point, j. Also:
Most of the world probably wouldn’t hate us as much as they do now
We wouldn’t be spiraling into serious debt
The troops killed in Iraq would be zero (no war)
Americans would not be wire tapped
People wouldn’t question their civil rights (No patriot act)
and the list goes on and on
Anyone else read 1984?
My eMac is right! More regressive taxes and let the money trickle down!
Steve’s not hurting for cash. I’m sure he’d be glad to pay his share of the taxes, just as Warren Buffet is. Lots of the ultrarich think they should be taxed MORE and that they didn’t need the cuts.
If Al Gore were president, though, we’d be in a real mess, just as we were when Clinton was president. Remember, before Bush II came in and patched things up, gasoline was under a buck a gallon, we were at peace, we still had strong allies besides Tony Blair and United Arab Emirates, the government was running a surplus and starting to pay off the massive debt we racked up under Reagan and Bush I, …. oh never mind. Bush apologists wouldn’t understand this anyway.

Pete (MacDude) – The link to the article was interesting, BUT, YOU STILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD A TROJAN TO BECOME PART OF A BNET. They cannot commandeer your machine automatically. Therefore, if you were indeed part of this BNET, you downloaded some shady file and willfully installed it yourself – probably having to enter your admin password in the process!!
