Apple MacBook Pro battery benchmarks

“I did my first real test of the controversial MacBook Pro battery today… When I first got to a desktop the battery menu bar item was estimating that I had 3 hours and 7 minutes of run time available, but the actual results were less impressive. I got the first low battery warning after exactly 2 hours and 30 minutes of run time and the involuntary sleep after 2 hours and 38 minutes,” Jason O’Grady reports for O’Grady’s PowerPage.

“This test was not exactly a scientific test as I wasn’t actively using the machine (which should help battery life) yet I had both wireless technologies on and the monitor set not to dim (which should hurt battery life),” O’Grady reports. “Next I will do a test of the battery running on the minimal settings to playback a DVD. (50% brightness, Airport and Bluetooth off). Then I will probably do a more real world test, where I use the machine the entire time.”

  1. It’s pretty obvious the battery life will be less than the G4 powerbooks because the macbook pros have brighter screens for a start.

It’s also a 1.0 generation product – so dont expect optimum effeciency in battery life etc.

That’s the risk of being an ‘early adopter’ of new technology – expect some things not to work effeciently.

The next generation macbook pro will be a great machine – im gonna wait for that.

  2. re: Yet another disaster for Apple — they can’t even compete on battery time. When will people stop purchasing these stupid computers? They are $1000 more expensive then the competition, 400% slower in execution, the OS is full of security problems, and now we hear battery life is terrible.

I can appreciate that Mac fan boys would buy turds from Apple (as they apparently do now) but why continue to blow money on bad equipment? Since Apple has gone Intel, it is easy to find a real computer running a real operating system for a cheaper price and better warranty coverage.

Apple – Hosing their customers for over 20 years.

    LOL!

    ‘F-COUGH’

‘Mac OS is full of security problems!’

    LLLLLOOOOLLL!!!

You shouls be called ‘Bill Gate’s bum boy’ not mac realist!

2 minor security issues on OSX (which Apple will patch by the end of the week) compared to….

90,000 + windows virus’s and security issues – I know which OS is teh most secure, and it aint any form of windows! – What an idiot – GET A LIFE!

  3. re: flappo:

i’ve had 3 laptops before my imac duo and the duo pisses over them all, icebook , tibook and 17″ G4 pb

laptops are shit , slow , expensive , fragile and pointless for the average user

You try and say that to someone who dosn’t work in an office all day long they would laugh at you!

I would love to see you carry your imac duo around London all day long to meetings!

Laptops are essential for Managers and for jobs that require any sort or moving around.

  4. solarflare: Right On, bro! I’m with you on that!

It’s dumb to buy a version 1.0 Mac and complain about shortcomings.
EVERY 1.0 Mac has problems on some, or many levels.
ie: G3 PowerBook, G4 PowerBook, Alu PowerBook, iMac G5, etc., etc….

So, don’t complain, sit back and enjoy your new MBPs! And when the Rev. B’s are released, sell it quick and buy a Rev. B.

ALSO, by the time the Rev. B MacBook Pros are released we’ll have Adobe CS3… that’s when I’ll give up my PowerBook G4.
