“OpenOSX today began shipping its WinTel 2.0 emulator software with Universal binaries, bringing nearly native emulated x86 performance to Apple’s new Intel-based Macs and allowing Mac users to run Microsoft Windows with increased speed. WinTel is designed to be an easy-to-use solution for configuring and utilizing the open-source Bochs software, which allows x86- or Pentium-based operating systems to run on Macintosh computers,” MacNN.com reports.
Wintel 2.0 requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later and is available for $25 via download, while upgrades from previous versions are priced at $15.

as you can see, supported WINE will be available soon on Mac OS X thanks to those studs over at codeweavers. It shouldn’t take them too long… all they are working on at this point is the UI – there’s pretty much not a lot of work to do on the coding end of things, unless EFI was to cause some problem, which i would have a hard time believing.
I’m itching, as are many of you I’m sure, to see how the new iMac compares with, say, a $4000 G5 Quad. I’m thinking Apple will see quite a hit in sales of the G5’s this year. I’m thinking the jump in performance was greater than expected and that’s why they cranked up the delivery dates of intel chip macs for the whole line in 2006. I’m sure I’m not the only one, now ready to buy a new G5… eeeh, thinking I’m gonna wait now for the new round of offers in a month or so.
Kelso,
Are you really that dumb, or do you just ask dumb questions?

We have to use Microsoft products, because there is no alternative in the workplace. Our IT department won’t allow open source software on our servers.
Sometimes Microsoft Word is just that, Microsoft Word – which started on the Mac.
Idiots.
now we can play with virus safely in the sealed container
To all of the small-minded people who think that Windows has no place on a Mac–
Some of us do indeed have the need to run Windows apps for work. To say that we shouldn’t subject ourselves to software that is dependent to Windows is very naive.
Do you really think that we would choose this software on our own? Of course not, or we would not be Mac users. I didn’t choose the software that my employer has me use, nor the franchise-specific software that I have to use.
I work at a Honda dealership. There are no auto sales programs for Mac. Also, there is Honda proprietary software that I can not go without, and guess which OS it runs on…
No, I’m not changing my job because of the platform that it requires. My six figure income is worth the hassle.
At work, I have to use a PC for three apps. My Powerbook sits right on my desk for everything else.
And I also have to admit that it would be nice to have the same options available for gaming as the rest of the PC world. I am not a big gamer, but the fact that I could be, could potentially change that.
RE:”To all of the small-minded people who think that Windows has no place on a Mac–“
Look, many of the people who will not tolerate any MS product on their computers are people who do not work for a living, or if they do, they are lucky enough to work for companies who can use non-MIcrosoft software on Macs.
Many of them are sitting at home in Mom’s basement in their underwear amid a pile of pizza boxes using their Macs for nothing but entertainment purposes.
Those clowns do not speak for those of us who use Macs as working tool, and who want to work with them wherever we go and whatever we do. We want to use them because they are better, not because they ARE NOT Microsoft. If Microsoft has a better program, and I can use it, I will.
I don’t now, but will probably have to get MS Office, but I am not going to get emotional about it, will just use it when I need it, and don’t need to have waste time obsessing about it. Get a life, or more specifically, if you believe in Macs that much, (I do) get out there on the “street” and sell them.
