“Apple Computer Inc. shares rose in premarket activity Tuesday after a Wall Street analyst said the technology giant should cash in during the holiday season as it peddles video iPods to consumers,” The Associated Press reports. “UBS analyst Benjamin Reitzes said the Cupertino, Calif.-based company is increasingly moving toward the digital entertainment and media arena through new hardware, content and services. Based on this strategy, he raised estimates for both Apple’s stock price and first-quarter earnings. ‘We believe that Apple is experiencing a positive mix shift toward video iPods and to a lesser extent, iMacs,’ he said in a report. ‘In addition to solid holiday sales, we believe investors will focus more on potential new products at Macworld in January, including a few new Macs and other new initiatives.'”
Reitzes raised his AAPL price target from $74 to $86.

i just had my 60gb ipod crash and lost over 200$ in downloads, i hope they send me a new video ipod as a replacement. i have to say i pissed @ apple, i just works, but i have apple care and aquisition so ill just download my music for free now. fight the man, democrazy in action, etc.
How many people think Apple’s stock will double by the end of 2006?
The anticipation for January is already starting to set in on me…
What “new initiatives” lay ahead of us?!?!
It’s worse than waiting for Xmas morning!
I don’t know about the ipod doing all the work for Apple. Last weekend I was in a Apple store and they were selling just about as many imac’s as ipods.
Hey Bro, how can you “lose” $200 in downloads just cause your iPod crashed? How did you get the tunes on there in the first place, with iTunes, right? They should still be in iTunes, so just take your iPod back for a fix or replacement (assuming it’s still in warranty) and re-sync.
That’s why you should back up your files, I guess.
Dear Brother…
HOW do you loose $200 in downloads when your iPod crashes. The purchases reside on your computer (not iPOD) and it is SO easy to back them up on CD…

“Confused”
“The brother” may have ripped it off from his neighbor, so he can’t replace the tunes.
Just got the Universal Dock & a Remote for my new vPod. It has an S-Video out and looks pretty good on a TV from across the room. The AV cables and docks are flying out of the stores. Highly recommended.
My only wish is for a Front Row Interface on the Video Out when connected to a TV. Should be doable. Get to work guys.

I am bullish on the stock and upcming Apple products. I believe the stock will continue to go up until Apple faces significant competition that is perceived by Wall Street to have a greater upside than Apple.
Cool thing is that during the 90s, Apple was a “big” company that was just a shadow of itself. Now, it’s growing into its britches again– and big britches they are.
Note to self: Do you always sound so corny…?
The Brother is the one that is confused. He didn’t lose anything unless he is as bad at computing as he is at english.
What does Apple have to do with democracy? If you don’t like capitalism don’t buy stuff.
X Doesnt always mark the spot
G Spank–
I think it might actually be possible. I’m trying not to become overzealous about Apple’s Intel products, but I really think Intel is also hoping that Apple will be an Intel showpiece for new tech. They make a nice combo.
I believe Apple can make huge marketshare strides. Not too long ago, I believe someone stated that even a 1% increase in marketshare equaled over a billion dollars in income for Apple. Because Apple has been so small, the room to grow is potentially amazing.
1st rule of all computing (yes, the iPod is a computer).
BACK UP ALL CRITICAL FILES
2nd rule of all computing
BACK UP ALL CRITICAL FILES
3rd Rule of all computing
When in doubt , see #1
BTW- if they are on iTunes they will sync to ANY iPod, can be burned to disc, and can be backed up as a data file with the .mac Backup application to any media you choose.
the brother’s “i just had my 60gb ipod crash and lost over 200$ in downloads” was a fake post. Just some troll with time to kill.
Move on.
Yup Brother. Your songs should still be in your iTunes folder, unless of course you’re making it all up. I’ve had my ipod crash a few times and once I had to reformat the drive. In either case the iTunes songs were still there. If you have dotmac, then iSync will back up all your purchased songs to a remote server.
If Apple truly go into the media business with some exciting new offerings then for sure the stock will double in a year. Look what’s on the horizon:
For certain:
>50 M ipods sold by end 2006.
New intel macs, especially laptops.
1 billion iTMS songs sold
Expanded iTunes video offerings
Increased PC market share
Possibilities:
PVR or DVR devices
Multimedia distributions
Dual boot macs
Some other insanely great device / software that we haven’t even thought of.
On the face of it, Apple shares should do well in 2006. However remember there will always be dips when someone starts cashing in or gets freaked cos Apple didn’t meet some outlandish estimate for iPod sales!
Don’t feed the troll – The Brother
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Longhorn: What are you talking about? Have you lost your mind? Or did you miss the memo: Xmas comes in January these days. You gotta keep up with The Joy of Tech.

I am afraid that this is an apple employee tooting their employers horn. Is it just me or does this read exactly like what one would write if one were hired by apple to plug it’s products? Dell got in some trouble for doing this a couple years ago, apple please don’t do it too.

“i just had my 60gb ipod crash and lost over 200$ in download”
First of all you are an idiot if you LOST 200$ in downloads. You should have backed them up.
Secondly, you cannot lose your songs if your iPod crashes, unless you erase them from iTunes, in which case, you are an idiot for erasing them off the device that manages your iPod.
Take some frickin responsibility for yourself. If you are going to do anything in life other than eat breath and crap, you need to learn a little bit about how the world works, and that includes the technology that you own.
This mentality of ‘im not responsible for any of my own actions’ has got to stop.
did you not read, MY ITUNES ACCOUNT IS ON A COMPUTER IN CALIFORNIA, I AM IN MISSOURI. 2,800 MILES AWAY. go fuck yourself, i will take personal responsibility to kick your dumbass all across this post though! i am well aware of all the precautions recomend by you and the other drones on this site.

“How many people think Apple’s stock will double by the end of 2006?”
I do and I hope so (grin).
Guess what folks, the Intel switch is brilliant. Here’s why:
The number one objection for Windows users considering a switch to Mac is software. They already have a lot of software thats Windows based. They may not want to re-buy it all. They may have a game or a piece of productivity software or maybe their company runs a custom application to execute daily tasks. They need those factors removed or greatly reduced.
Enter the Intel switch.
First off, developers can now write Mac apps easier.
Secondly, wow, all of a sudden they can put Windows on a separate partition and boot into it to run that one game or piece of software they have to have. By the way, Virtual PC now runs better. Oh wait, theres more, you may be able to run Windows apps in a window without installing Windows (lol). All of a sudden, people aren’t objecting so much.
Folks this strategy is basically a redux of what happened when Apple transitioned their entire user base to OSX. It’s like Classic for Windows users. People WANT to switch. People NEED to switch. People SHOULD switch.
People WILL switch when their biggest objection is removed. Apple has spent the last 5 years removing obstacles to people switching, and this is going to be the biggest leap forward yet.
