Analyst: iTunes video sales have doubled, attracting interest from new content partners

“Despite the lack of a large video library, Apple’s iTunes video sales have more than doubled since the company announced its 1 millionth video sale [October 31, 2005], according to one analyst,” Katie Marsal reports for Apple Insider. “The iPod maker is also reportedly planning a major update to its video services, including the addition of several new content partners, for a high-profile launch that could come as early as January.”

Marsal reports, “In a research note released to clients earlier this morning, American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu said his proprietary checks with industry sources indicate that iTunes video sales from music videos, ABCTV shows and Pixar short films continue to come in ahead of expectations. ‘Apple disclosed that it sold 1 million videos on October 31, 2005,’ said Wu. ‘We are picking up indications that sales have more than doubled since then and that this strength is attracting attention from other content providers including NBC, CBS, and Fox eager to participate in this new market opportunity.’ The analyst said he would not be surprised to see Apple announce new content partners over the next few quarters, perhaps as early as Steve Jobs’ keynote at Macworld Expo during the second week of January.”

  1. I have gone ballistic with video lately like I did with the first iTunes (sans iTMS).

EyeTV software for EyeTV 200 and 500 now can record directly into 320 x 240 MPEG 4 viPod format. All one has to do is drag n drop into their iTunes Library and label the Genre (TV shows for example) to synch to viPods and take their shows on the road.

SnapZ ProX from Ambrosia will take care of those pesky DVD movies by screen recording into 320 x 240 with MPEG 4 16 channel Quicktime for viPods as well. Not to mention stipping the DRM off iTMS video purchases.

Don’t expect all this freedom when the MacTels arrive.

The new Intel chips have DRM up the waaazooo.
