“Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray maintained an ‘outperform’ rating and $68 price target on Apple Computer after surveying MP3 player sales representatives at 50 U.S. retail stores about what portable digital audio devices they recommend to customers and why,” Maya Roney reports for Forbes.
Roney reports, “The percentage of sales reps recommending purchase of an Apple iPod or iPod nano (versus any other high-end portable audio device) increased to 68% in November from 63% in June 2005, when the last survey was taken, while the percentage recommending an iPod shuffle fell to 38% from 52% in the same time period. ‘The bottom line from our survey is that all iPods have retained top mindshare with U.S. retailers,’ said Munster.”

Shuffle needs a refresh… befor Xmas!
1GB/2GB
There’s really not too much that you can change on the shuffle. Maybe size and battery life. Adding different color options would be nice.
If shuffle sales are going down it is probably because the nano is taking some of that market. It’s probably better for Apple to sell more nanos than shuffles, since it will help Apple recuporate the development cost for the new model. I’m quite happen with the capacity and color of my shuffle. It does what it should do and was cheap. Adding a 2 gig shuffle would confuse the product line and in any case how will you be able to find a song with that much space.
^ Add a vibrator feature.
Chicks’ll buy ’em HUGE!
Put a retractable blade on the Shuffle.

“Shuffle needs a refresh”
That could happen; Apple is rumored to be shopping for new sources of RAM for the shuffle.
For the gym. There is no better MP3 player than the Shuffle. Hard drive players are too bulky and tend to skip and the NANO while smaller is still too big
Capacity for the shuffle is just right.
What would you do with 4 or even 2GB of music on a shuffle? You would need a screen – but they make that…the 4 and 2GB nanos!
Seriously, the shuffle is a great device for giving your workout/lawn mowing a soundtrack. As a digital music library, you need a device like the nano or iPod for capacity, screen,m and interface (click wheel).
MDN word: law
I wouldn’t be at all suprised to see an update for the Shuffle at MacWorld in Jan.
if they bump the capacity of the shuffle, they need to bump the Nano. Adding a simple display like the sony models would be nice too.
mw – “yet” as in probably “not…”

Better yet, add a grenade feature as an anti-theft deterrent. Then, Stumpy won’t steal any more!
Maybe drop the price of the suffle and get those with really low cash into the itunes system. Sell them at the corner store (7-11) like they do in Japan.

You are correct sir! The capacities are just about right for a blind navigable piece of sonic art. It’s perfect already, ask PC world.
