iPods to get smaller outside, larger inside, white and black; new Macs also expected Wednesday

Two new iPods, each available in a choice of white or black, will debut at Apple’s “One more thing” special media event Wednesday, Think Secret’s Ryan Katz reports. According to Katz, “The new models will be priced exactly the same as the ones they replace at $299 and $399 [and] will sport smaller enclosures… The $399 iPod will very likely see a bump to 80GB. The $299 iPod may also see its storage capacity double from 20GB to 40GB.”

Katz also reports, “expect at least four new Mac configurations on Wednesday.”

  1. there is no 16 GB flash availible, there is 16 gigabit (which is 2GB)…heres my fool proof guess: it will be carefully designed, very slim, and will be overpriced and underfeatured in the eyes of all apple haters everywhere …”it” will be revealed in two days. Mark my words

  2. What most of you seem to forget, is that the event is called “One more thing…” ONE, not 3, not 5, ONE. Historically, when Steve hits us with that line during a keynote, it is because he has ONE MORE THING to show us.

No body outside a few in the inner circle at Apple really know what that thing is going to be, but I really, really doubt we are going to see multiple products released on that day.

  3. I only hope the new iPods do not have a soldered battery as found in the Nano. My preference is to replace the battery myself rather than have to send the unit to Apple. I’m out of luck with the Nano.

That said, the Nano is great! (Fingerprints, smudges, cracked screens and all! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> )

    Peace.

    MW: later

    Later.

  4. “The new models will be priced exactly the same as the ones they replace at $299 and $399 [and] will sport smaller enclosures…”

Does anyone think the standard iPod is too big?? I love the Nano, but probably as much for the dichotomy between small (iPod) and Impossibly Small (Nano) as anything. Shrink the entire iPod line any further and we’ll all have to undergo genetic engineering for smaller hands just to comfortably hold the damn things.

Instead of making smaller enclosures, how about shrinking the guts, keeping the same enclosure size, and giving us a bigger battery? Or even a BATTERY WE CAN REPLACE? Hmm … ?

Just a consumer friendly thought on a three or four hundred dollar (not including tax) recreational device.

  5. Has anyone noticed the adaptor that ships with the nano is way wider/bigger than it needs be for a 4G or 3G ipod? Why would apple not ship an adaptor that fits its own current 4G dock or all the current third party speakers docks out there? The adaptor suggests a whole slew of next generation products to fit a wider/bigger viPod casing. If not tomorrow then perhaps soon..
