iPods to get smaller outside, larger inside, white and black; new Macs also expected Wednesday

Two new iPods, each available in a choice of white or black, will debut at Apple’s “One more thing” special media event Wednesday, Think Secret’s Ryan Katz reports. According to Katz, “The new models will be priced exactly the same as the ones they replace at $299 and $399 [and] will sport smaller enclosures… The $399 iPod will very likely see a bump to 80GB. The $299 iPod may also see its storage capacity double from 20GB to 40GB.”

Katz also reports, “expect at least four new Mac configurations on Wednesday.”

  1. How much you wanna bet its gonna be just like the nano event last month, and Mr. Jobs does something that NOT ONE PERSON was expecting? Only Apple can bring this much excitement around probably a 90-minute presentation by the CEO of Apple! Wow just typing that just gove me an energy rush!

    Magic Word: hot
as in “Whatever WILL be unveiled this wednesday is gonna be HOT!”

  2. I hope that Steve acknowledges the persistent problems people (me included) are having with RAM slots failing on PowerBooks. I’m getting my third Logic Board in 3 months installed as soon as they get them in stock. Must be on back order cause they’re replacing so many of them.

  3. Best Buy has a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse in their sales circular this week. That’s no reason to have a special announcement, but it may be talked about on Wednesday in addition to whatever wonderfulness is coming out of Cupertino.

  4. The Horror!!! Wasted Pixels!!! How many cathode rays/liquid crystals/phosphors had to suffer this fate? There is nothing I hate more than wasted pixels. What a waste those are. If I only had a nickel for every wasted pixel, I would be a rich man. But, alas, I don’t. So I will continue to vent my frustration about wasted pixels by wasting some of my own in random forums.

  5. I work for Apple.

So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.

Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

    But trust me…. You don’t.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.

This is how bad info gets passed around.

If you dont know about the topic….Dont make yourself sound like you do.

Cuz some Macheads believe anything they hear.

  6. BT Mighty Mouse would be nice. I’ve been waiting for this to replace my regular BT mouse.

So will these new iPods be the 5G? Or just updated 4Gs? The 4Gs are getting a little long in the tooth, time for Apple to release new full size iPods that will blow everyone away. Or just dump the full size and release the 16GB and 32GB nanos. I would order a 32GB nano no matter what the cost is.

On another note: I ran the PDX marathon yesterday and was amazed at how many minis, nanos and shuffles there were out there.

Been a Mac user since 1988 and I am still not use to seeing an Apple product dominating a market (at least since the Apple II days back in grade school).
