Apple announces ‘special event’ to be held September 7th

Apple has sent out invitations via email to selected media outlets announcing a special event on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 to be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The email features the line, “1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again.”

Apple introduced the iPod on October 23, 2001, describing the device as “a breakthrough MP3 music player that packs up to 1,000 CD-quality songs into an ultra-portable, 6.5 ounce design that fits in your pocket.”
Motorola iTunes Phone and/or something else?

  1. I don’t want Apple to make a digital camera. They have neither the expertise or resources to make good lenses etc. The iSight is a good webcam but it is a long way off from what is needed for still photography. Plus there are a lot of established players in the market and Apple have got most to work well with OS X, so there is no need for a Apple solution.

An airport / home device would be interesting. Really need a simple solution to clean up all the wires from behind my new TV. It’s getting worse than my old G4 sawtooth.

  2. Here comes the launch of IpodMotion. Itunes Music Producer, Motorola Itunes Phone and a Video camera that films and saves in high definition to a large on board hard drive Using the Processor contracted to be made by that British Company…..I Hope ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Ok it could be two things.

    1: The iPhone

2: A larger flash based iPod Shuffle

I think it’s the iPhone, and Apple has it so their Mac’s can access it easily through iTunes, not only that, it will be possible to surf via the mobile phone as well.

The mobile phone can only store so much and a iPhone seems to fit the bill.

Also the iPod shuffle could be seeing a update along with larger iPods.

The fifth generation iPod would match the 5th version of iTunes.

I would like to see the iPod store video from a cam.

  4. I would like to give you all a sneak peak at what we are doing on the 7th of September. Thank you all for being Mac Fans and supporting Apple through Good and Bad times. I will announce a new product thios day that should really interest all of you. We have been working hard to bring you all this product and we expect you all to; as always, Bend over and take it like the men you are as you have time and time again. Please keep your eyes pealed for the glorious event in which we will out innovate every company that ever was.

    Redmond, start your copier’s, again!

  5. I’m hoping for video – if not a video iPod, at least AirPort Express with Video and an iFlix store like what was mentioned above. (A “tablet” universal remote would be nice too.)

    But, it’s probably the phone.

  6. Of course, it’s the bloody phone. YAY!

I’m saving up for the ultimate in portability: the iPad!

    Newton’s grown-up tablet-style rightful progeny.

If I’m right about how much $, and how long, then I’ll have one next fall.

    Sigh.

  7. The iPod promotion/rebate only applies to certain models. You can apply the equivalent of an iPod mini only to any other current model. If they announce something new, it is already excluded from that deal, and will in all likelihood not ship for a few weeks.

This does not sound like the moto-iPhone. It sounds much bigger.

  8. “Apple Digital Camera (it will come eventually)”

Why would Apple make a digital camera? There are tons of them out there, so it wouldn’t be very innovative.

However, ten years ago, when digital cameras *were* innovative, Apple did make one: the QuickTake.

  9. Hey bscepter,

Since Steve J has to keep paying for antivirus & anti-spyware and all the apps that are a pae imitation of iLife, I think he’s using a FeeCee!

    MW = Hot, and a FeeCee’s not

  10. not the phone… they said
“1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again.”
so what would they be changing if they put 1000 songs in your cell phone thats in your pocket?

  11. Apple invented consumer-level digital cameras with the QuickTake. They had a dedicated “Imaging”-something department back then. Then they moved onto other areas when the market matured. Years later, they introduced the Firewire-based iSight camera, but there hasn’t been much discussion about their imaging department, which I think was dissolved.

I have high hopes for the Moto-iTunes phone. It’s more fun that way. I can’t afford one anyway.

  12. The device that does it all and does it well. iTunes, pictures, video, e-mail and voice. Moto helped them out with the cell phone part. Time to eBay the cell phone, Blackberry, Palm and MS mobile device. 2, 4 and 6 GB flash memory.

    For Mac + Windows

    Bring your own wireless plan.

    $199
    $299
    $399

  13. Not a phone. Separate Motorola event for that.
Not a new Mac. Those will be at MacWorld Paris.
Could be a new iPod but would have to be dramatic change like wifi or video. But if video, it will be a major change in form factor so you can actually watch it. But don’t think so. Just transporting video is not revolutionary. So no. Maybe wifi but not hearing any rumors.

But here are the signs and rumors:
    1. iTunes and iTMS incorporates video.
    2. iTunes and iTMS incorporates podcasts – think automated delivery of personally-selected list of casts – think show or movie instead of pod.
    3. Jobs says it’s the year of HD.
    4. QT7 and H.264 released.
    5. Apple makes deal for H.264 chips from Broadcom.
    6. Apple hires Xbox live subscription exec from Microsoft.
    7. Xbox 3 coming in Nov with “living-room set-top box” capabilities.
    8. HDTVs selling really well – with lower prices expected in fall.
    9. Disney, Universal, Paramount in talks with Apple about online video. (rumor)
    10. Apple makes known it’s working on remote control for AE.
    11. Bonjour proven with AE.

What might it point to? A set-top box running iTunes-like software for online video downloads (videocasts, movies) from iTMS. Comes with a remote control. Wifi network to Mac or PC using bonjour. Replaces the DVD player, broadcast TV, and PVR.

  14. This is NOT the phone. That’s such a non-event.
    It’s obviously the VIDEO IPOD!!!
Why else mention 1,000 SONGS in your pocket. it’s the next step….not some crappy phone that appeals to .00001% of users. i have a cell phone. i don’t need another one and wouldn’t use one to listen to songs on. that’s stupid.
it’s the iPod video, i guarantee it.

  15. If it is an iPod video with iTMS video/PVR/DVD/Quicktime/Divx/photo/music capabilities Apple is gonna get my dough. Even if it isn’t in iPod form factor and instead was a set top box by my entertainment center I would find the product worth my purchase. All the capability above combined with Apple’s ease of use would be very pleasant. Add the touch of a remote control resembling a thin iPod and Apple will have people clamoring for it, myself included.

  16. Seamlessly…

Then next week Motorola can launch their phone running not just mini iTunes but OS X without all the extra apps.

That would be big. The phone has been delayed too long. but if it is running a version of OS X, it could allow more people to try OS X. Inkwell has been running on OS X but not many people can use it. But on a phone/PDA it would be very usefull.
