PC Magazine: ‘Give us your thoughts on Windows’

PC Magazine is looking for readers to tell them what they think of Windows, past and present, and what they’d like to see in future versions. Your quote, and your photo, may appear in an upcoming issue. Just answer one or all of the following questions:

• For long-time Windows users, what was the first version you worked with, and what were your first impressions of it?
• How did you come upon Windows for the first time? At work? At a friend’s house? What surprised you or disappointed you about it?
• Do you use Windows in any unusual or unique ways?
• What do you think of Windows’ world dominance?
• If you could change one thing about Windows XP, what would it be?
• What would you like to see in future versions of Windows?

Info on where to send your responses to any or all of the above questions here.

  1. Windows, unsafe, spyware ridden, always gets in your face when you don’t want it to. Does things its way instead of how the user would do it.
I use OSX and a Mac at home which keeps me sane and happy. Windows keeps me employed because it’s so bad that users need support every minute of the day. I work as a desktop technician. There not world dominant anymore and are going down hill fast. OSX is now the best OS because it has none of the above mentioned flaws.

  2. I would like to have a Stop button next to start. Everytime I use Windows I have to search all my Windows books to find out how I have to shutdown my machine. Most of the time I just leave it on, so it will crash.

MW: Show BG some “respect” for achieving a monopoly with an insanely cheap ripoff product.

  3. I think Bill Gates should quit thinking he can write good software and shut down that heap of junk and find something else to do.

The world will be a much better place without that virus known as Microshit!

Only then can technology really move forward!

  4. Surely the secret here is to respond and say how great windows is. Already happy with it, please don’t change a thing. No need to mention that the reason is because we all use macs, just let those complacent, arrogant bastards think that everything is hunky dory.

  5. I have been using Windows for a really long time.
And to be very honest, I felt it became worse with every release, with Windows 98 being the worse of the lot.
I still use Windows, but only at work and out of sheer compulsion.

Now I am a happy Mac user when I am not at work and I got everything I ever wanted from an OS (with some few, but acceptable annoyances).

But Windows let me down and helpless on a number of occasions, again and again.

If I were to choose a version of Windows, I would pick Windows 3.11 Workgroup on any day.
I wish Microsoft added USB support among other things (they added to XP) to this wonderful little OS.

3.11 is my the best Windows I ever used. I miss it very much.
