Apple’s pending Intel switch not hurting PowerPC-based Mac sales

“If you are wondering whether Apple’s switch to Intel will put buyers off, the evidence at the moment seems to be: no. Here’s a simple way to take the pulse of the PC market, whenever you feel like it: Go to the computer section of Amazon and click on the top sellers link under the ‘computers‘ tab. This will show you Amazon’s list of top selling computers – updated every hour. Apple computers normally occupy half of the top ten slots (at the time of writing they occupy 5 of the top 6). This indicator showed no drop in demand following the Intel announcement. Of course, demand may diminish in the coming months, but I suspect that most buyers don’t care too much about it either way,” Robin Bloor writes for IT-Analysis.

  1. gzero – um, I am a right winger (to an extent) and I am a HUGE MAc fanatic, so your comdmenation of NoMacForU (while acceptable) should NOT include any political agenda – you left wing pussy ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  2. why do we get into political name calling on this site? we all play for the same team (mac), let’s not fight over something as silly as politics. it’s probably true that more liberals use macs, but the part that makes them better is that they use macs, not that they’re liberal. it’s pretty stupid to not like someone because they voted for the other guy.

that being said, i’m all for going after pc users for their ignorance and stupidity.

  3. Mac users will continue to buy the most advanced PPC hardware sold by Apple, and “if” Apple abandons the PPC someday, they will own the best of the legacy. I have an Intel-based Mac system in-house by necessity, but am not willing purchase a non-PPC Apple Mac for my own use. Intel chips are foremost intended to strengthen the Mac Mini and laptop lines, but until such time as PPC floating-point performance is surpassed by an as-yet unknown/vaporous Intel CPU, PPC will continue to dominate and remain the CPU in high-end Mac’s.

  4. Re: The comment about NoMacForYou’s “wife”. I’m sure he doesn’t have a wife. He likely doesn’t have any friends either. The type of personality that hangs out in a forum just to constantly troll is an angry, bitter individual, whose life gives him no joy whatsoever. Seeing no possibility of happiness, the closest he can come is in making others feel as miserable as he does.
