HP adds ‘Apple iPod shuffle from HP’ to digital music player line

Rounding out its lineup of digital music players, HP today added the “Apple iPod shuffle from HP.” HP is offering two models: the $99.99 512 megabyte version, which holds up to 120 songs, and the $129.99 1 gigabyte version, which holds up to 240 songs.

The Apple iPod shuffle from HP, the most affordable iPod to date, allows users to experience their music a million different ways. Smaller and lighter than a pack of gum, the Apple iPod shuffle from HP comes with its own lanyard, so it’s ready to wear right out of the box.

Users can conveniently charge and transfer music from their PC by plugging the Apple iPod shuffle from HP directly into a USB port. The device also doubles as a portable USB flash drive to back up personal files or exchange them between computers.

  1. I just don’t get why HP bothers to call them “Apple iPod from HP”

They are exactly the same as the ones that don’t say “HP”… Who do they think they are fooling?

  2. “Who do they think they are fooling?”
The few suckers who decide to chuck one in when buying an HP PC. They still probably sell more of them than creative and other makes do.

  3. @ Zinger:

What does it matter so long as Apple sells more iPods, whilst increasing the audience for iTMS, iTunes and QuickTime.

Seriously, it’s not like this deal is hurting anyone – and many people who’ll never get to visit an Apple Store or may not even be allowed to purchase a product from an Apple catalogue can get their company to buy their iPod for them.

So, they probably don’t think they’re fooling anyone – but a sale is a sale.

  4. I read somewhere that HP gives better service & warranty than Apple. Don’t know if that’s the case. So from HP means something like: with HP service & warranty.

  5. They’re not fooling anyone really, but it’s not supposed to. The purpose of this whole deal from Apple’s perspective is to use hp’s retail channels to get the iPod into more stores. HP gets perhaps a little money, plus they get a brand boost by being associated with something cool like the iPod. So hp wants you to know quite well that it’s the same iPod as any iPod.

  6. Radio Shack doesn’t sell any “Apple” products, but they do sell the “Apple iPod from HP”.

I doesn’t hurt to have more people selling your product.

  7. wierd note –

It’s so funny going into retail stores that carry the hp-ipod after an apple price drop.

None of the hp-ipod prices go down.

    Just the other day I saw a b&w 20gb ipod for $399…..

  8. Believe it or not they are fooling all the PC people out there who think that an iPod from Apple will only work on a Mac and there are a LOT of people like that.

  9. Why does it take so long to come out with an HP version of Apples iPod’s?

    ——-

Get the feeling they want to make it’s a hot selling model? It’s like.. well let’s see if they can sell a couple million shuffles in a quarter.. oh.. okay.. apparently the shuffles are selling like hotcakes.. fine.. i guess Apple’s got a hit on its hands..

they’ve partnered with the digital media master, and still unsure if Apple actuallly knows what they’re doing..

    Question: Apple + Intel + HP = ?

  10. Well, the reason why they are branded as HP iPods is because Apple dose not cover them. So if you have an issue with the HP iPod you have to mail it into HP. Regular iPods can be serviced anywhere an Apple Store or Apple certified retailer is located.

  11. Oh, and Mike, it takes time to make iPods, or anything for that matter. So when Apple released the Shuffle HP wasn’t let in because of all of the secretive going ons at Apple. So when the Shuffle was released they let HP make some, then once HP had made enough, they realeased them themselves. (This way they don’t sell out)

Answer: Apple + Intel= Apple + Intel, and HP stays where they are as there own company that buys the rights to make Apple products.
