  1. All iPods released within the past 18 months or so do support all of the new features. If you have one that is older than that, then it’s probably time to upgrade anyway…

  2. podcasting… isn’t that like satellite radio?

Who really wants to listen to recorded programs anyhow. Maybe Steve Jobs and his minions enjoy sitting around in their mock turtlenecks listening to NPR broadcasts on their iPod shuffles…but wait the shuffle has no display, so all the Macboys weap because they can’t find Emeril Lagasse’s new veggie lasagne recipe podcast.

Here is a solution for all the Apple fanboys:
    – buy an iRiver
    – duct tape a portable XM radio to the unit

You guys and all your fancy gadgets kill me.

Can I be one of the cool kids too?

  3. 1. Podcasts cannot easily be put in a smart playlist.
    2. Podcasts from different publishers must be individually selected and played. You can’t simply hit Play on the Podcast menu item.
    3. There is no indicator on the podcast that you have already listened to it.

  4. Now that definitely isn’t Sputnik!

    a) Not witty enough
    b) No reference to .NET

But whoever it is obviously doesn’t ‘get’ podcasting as a concept, probably because the Windows Media ‘community’ (i.e. Chief Pimp Microsoft and all of the uncreative, also-ran, fellow travellers) can’t develop a fully integrated ‘podcast’ solution, in the same way that they couldn’t develop an easy-to-use fully integrated player/manager/store solution.

How sad when those with closed minds come and denigrate the work of a truly innovative company.

  5. Why does Apple consider my two year old iPod old? Do they really expect me to run out and get a new one after spending $500 two years ago? Does Steve Jobs think everybody is as wealthy as he is?

I am 100% certain that the new software would work on my 3rd gen iPod. Only Apple doesn’t want me to have it.

This is one of those times that open source makes sense.

  6. “3. There is no indicator on the podcast that you have already listened to it.”

Podcasts you haven’t listened to don’t have a blue dot to the left of it. Ones you have listened to don’t have the blue dot.

  7. I’m also disappointed that my older (2G) pod isn’t supported.

But I think there has been functionality added to it by updates that come out after the initial update for newer pods.

    Or is my memory wrong?

I intend to email Apple and give them a little prod.

  8. ever since the last round of updates, my iPod doesn’t like to connect to my computer, and once connected it doesn’t like to disconnect. Almost always have to reboot the iPod to get it connected/disconnected. Anybody else have this problem?

  9. Hey Sputnik, I have a solution for your negative attitude. Why not go to a Windows fan-boy site and hear about all the latest Windows developments being hyped by other Windows junkies, instead of spewing negativity here? No, wait!!! You can’t do that. There aren’t any Windows developments, are there? Well, maybe you could go to a Creative forum and hype their stuff. No, wait!!! Their stuff is as in demand as last week’s tuna sandwich, and their stock price is down 11%. You can get a share now for less than the cost of said tuna sandwich. So much for declaring war on Apple, eh? Maybe you could try a RealNetworks or Napster forum…nope, no good news there either. Well, at least save yourself some pain and don’t hang around here when the new Cingular Motorola Rokr phone with iTunes is introduced later this week. Don’t go away mad, just go away.

  10. RE: having problems getting Podcasts

I can’t get many of them. “On the Media from NPR” works. Most don’t.

I think that most of the Podcaster’s servers are overwhelmed by success. I cannot access the audio files on these sites manually — I get timed-out.

What shall we call it? How about “Poddotted” like slashdotted?
