QuickTime 7 H.264 video debuts on Endorphin.com

Endorphin.com has posted two sample QuickTime 7 H.264 demo movies that can be played in full screen. The videos are standard definition video but in the wide screen 16 X 9 format. The videos load in the QuickTime player so you can expand the player to fill the screen or use QuickTime 7 Pro to view in full screen.

The two movies, Land & Sea and Powered by Gasoline, show clips from endorphin.com videos that demonstrate the capability of the H.264 format to deal with different types of scenes and expand the original size video to full screen with very good results.

Company president Bob Franco told MacDailyNews, “We are amazed at how well the video scales up to full screen without all the ugly artifacts we are used to seeing when blowing up standard definition video. The files sizes are quite small considering the quality of the picture. We are learning more about H.264 and look forward to adding new full screen QuickTime 7 movies to endorphin.com this year.”

Because of the small file sizes of the movies, many older G4 machines are capable of playing back the 30 frames per second full screen movies.

“The ability to watch high quality H.264 full screen video on your computer monitor with QuickTime 7 has the potential to start shifting the delivery of some of our entertainment from cable, satellite, and broadcast, to the internet and to elevate the perception of online video,” Franco said.

Endorphin.com has been online since 1995 and started showing online videos in 2000. Their videos often appear on Apple.com’s QuickTime entertainment page.

  1. The P51 Mustang footage is a perfect demonstration of H.264’s power, especially when you look at the definition of the spinning propellor blade which would be terrible under most of the preceding technology.

Another example of HD footage, namely the NASA showreel from Apple’s HD microsite, has another highlight in the reflecting pool of water near the Shuttle Assembly Building.

H.264 is truly amazing and Apple deserve kudos for supporting it in such a committed manner.

  2. i manage 20fps on my rev b 867 12inch pb……download first then watch…..stunning color and clarity….gets a bit jerky toward the clip end with the race cars

very impressive….makes me really want a hw upgrade

It’s only a matter of time before HD porn is freely available (I’ve already noticed some 1080i softcore around and about) and likewise before some entrepreneur/pimp/auteur (delete according to moral viewpoint) starts using H.264 in QT Broadcaster to start delivering some high-quality broadband “live” work to the net.

  4. This codec rocks. Played on my PB 12 867. I just let it download about halfway and play. Truly awesome and clear. Makes me want to spring for QT Pro for the extra features. I’ll definitely get QT pro when I get my next Mac.

  5. My 667 Tibook couldn’t cut it. WWDC hurry up and come already! I need a new Mac but I can’t buy until I see if Steve drops another must-have atomic bomb.

MW: boys – as in “The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys”

  6. When apple release the windows version and they start putting all the quicktime trailers up in h.264 (at non HD sizes) it will really start to wow people. The public will be blown away.
