Doesn’t work on my eMac USB 2.0 with SuperDrive. It says this computer doesn’t need this update…
how come it doesnt show up in the software update?
i got the same message: your computer doesnt need this update
I have a 1.8 single tower and it says it doesn’t need it. The update is probably for a specific make drive.
Is it for the Pioneer DVR-109?
I have the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D
installed in my eMac 1.25 GHZ.
The update says my computer doesn’t need it.
Pfft.
Hmmmm. We have a couple of PowerMac G5s (2.5 ghz) which do NOT have the Pioneer SuperDrive. HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B is the Manufacturer Number. We also had some problems reading a few CDs and DVDs, including Apple’s own iLife, iWork, and Logic discs.
Now, after the update, those CDs/DVDs work OK.
Way to go Apple.

Dual 1.8 G5, Late 2004 w/HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B… Fixed all my problems.
I have a 20th Anniversary Mac. No DVD. G3 processor. Didn’t need it

Looks like its for PMs with the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B drives. If you have that drive, get the update, if not, then you wont be needing it.
Those lousy LG SuperDrives had major issues anyway. The Pioneer drives always seem to work fine. I’m sure that’s why the firmware update is only for those drives.

Same here. Funny thing is, a friend of mine had that LG drive that this update is for and took it in to the Apple Store last fall. At the time they claimed nothing was wrong with it even though it wouldn’t read some media. Now nearly six months later they release this update. Obviously there was a problem afterall…
I have a Pioneer 106D that will burn DVDs but will not mount them afterwards (using toast 6). Can’t find anything to fix the problem.
Bummer!
My Pioneer DVD burner (stock w/ G5 dual 2.0 late 2004) tokk a dump on me. They were back-ordered so to “help me out, they installed the “HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B” am I in trouble… would I have been better off waiting for my original drive… anyone know? THANKS
