Report: Early Microsoft Longhorn beta slips

“Looks like the Longhorn client code that Microsoft will likely release at its Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) in very late April in Seattle will be a “preview” (a k an alpha of Longhorn client). Will Microsoft still be able to deliver Beta 1 in the first half of this year? We’re skeptical,” Mary Jo Foley reports for Microsoft Watch.

Foley predicts the release of the first beta of Longhorn around the time of the Professional Developers Conference this coming September.

MacDailyNews Take: Working for “Microsoft Watch” has got to be what the Devil created especially for “Apple Watchers” who fail to atone. Shudder! Lately, watching Microsoft has to seem like watching a Mack Sennett movie.

“Hell, they have already taken out all the “new and innovative” features, what exactly are they doing?”

Good question. Perhaps selling stock and brushing up resume’s?

“Cant they just send all their developers a Copy of XP for the longhorn beta? Ad a couple of new background artwork and new icons and WHAM, Longhorn”

    That’s what’s causing the delay. MS can’t even do a simple brush-up.

    Longhorn. WHERE’S THE BEEF?!?

  2. Longhorn=vaporware

the entire computer community should be giving MS hell right about now. XP is a security nightmare, SP2 (SuperPatch2) caused nearly as many problems as it was supposed to solve and XP is STILL getting breached, Longhorn has had several delays and by the time it’s released it wont be anywhere near the OS they promised and the company, instead of PROVING that with their thousands of programmers they can create a better OS resorts to smear tactics against the open source community. why more people and companies don’t just switch over to any or all of the Unix flavors is just beyond me.

  4. One of the really fun things to read is the recommended “avergae” config for a LongHorn PC http://windows.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,1995,1581842,00.asp

Microsoft is expected to recommend that the “average” Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.

Brought to you by the magic word feeling …. as in “Do you thin MS is feeling a bit of heat over the crap they ship?”
