Apple releases Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.2

Apple today released Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.2 via software Update which provides improvements in the update installation process and improved performance and reliability.

The Bluetooth Firmware Updater is for D-Link USB Adapters (revision B2 or later), and Apple internal Bluetooth modules on PowerBooks and PowerMacs. This firmware update will improve connectivity between the computer and the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Use this updater for the modules specified above; this updater is unsupported with any other Bluetooth modules.

Important: Applying this firmware updater to a D-Link USB to Bluetooth adapter will make it incompatible with non-Macintosh systems.

  1. After downloading, don’t forget that you must manually run the Bluetooth Updater in the Utilities folder (that’s why it opens it for you).

My D-Link firmware upgrade went exactly as they described on my 15″FP iMac G4, but with a cable modem, it went much faster than the 15 minutes they quoted in the instructions.

  2. Downloading firmware may take up to 15 minutes
Don’t let your computer sleep while updating firmaware
    .

Oh-oh, how do I do that with the updater running and the mouse and keyboard out!!?? Well, it didn’t sleep but I hope it’s because the updater prevented it from doing that. Meanwhile, I sweated bricks for 13 minutes while watching the puppy tell me what it was doing. A constant cycle of downloading firmware X seconds remaining; updating software Y seconds remaining…. What was missing is: What to do if the update is interrupted. That would’ve been helpful.

What I haven’t done is update the G5 firmware or iPod yet. Should I?

No problems on bluetooth update on dual 2.5 / 10.3.6.
