Apple has posted a QuickTime video stream of yesterday’s special music event with U2’s Bono and The Edge. The event took place at the California Theatre in San Jose, California and featured several music-related announcements, including the debt of the iPod Photo, the iPod Special Edition U2, and the EU iTunes Music Store.
QuickTime 6 is required. See it here.
It’s a good watch (especially the Socks!) although they cut out the majority of the musical performance by Bono and The Edge. I guess they didn’t want anyone to be able to hijack the audio, create MP3s and spread them around the web.
Cool. I like how it opens with a commercial that plays without a hitch, but as soon as Jobs takes the stage, the network gets “all clogged up.”
Mind you, this is a T3 connection.
After watching this, I have no doubt that Steve Jobs is back, as strong as ever. Another great performance by a guy who is at the top of his game and way ahead of anybody else in the field. It gives me confidence that Apple can continue to roll on. Hooray!
“we’ve been digging in the wrong place”
Loved it. Poor Micro$oft and the poor suckers who got dupped into following their “vision.”
I loved how SJ dismissed the video devices. He’s back!
I was a bit disappointed — not at Steve or his presentation — rather with the crowd. They were too quiet as Steve introduced each new thing. Give that presentation at a MacWorld Expo and the crowd wouild have been very much “into it”. This group seemed to be there more for Bono and Edge than anything else.
Also, it would have been fun if he would have had a Bill Gates look-a-like come out modeling a shirt with a HUGE pocket on the front and pulling out one of those video devices he showed.
good to see bono NOT drop an F bomb
etr … this was a special ‘media’ event , it was not open to the general public .. special invitations were sent out ..
I don’t need an iPod photo, but I do want one.
Just finished watching the special music event with U2. They were only part of the end of the event (no surprise there). Steve Jobs is back is all I can say.. he was in pure delicious full RDF form. Nice.
I don’t have a clue how well the U2 iPod will do. I suspect it will bring some new people who are fans of U2 in to buy an iPod who don’t already have one, perhaps some collectors and current owners will buy one as well. Not sure if it will be a huge sucess, but heck, an iPod sold is an iPod sold.
At this point I’m not sure anyone should be expecting any particular model to set the roof on fire, since there’s some maturity in the product line and significant segmentation (5 iPod minis, 2 white click wheels, 2 HP+Apple iPods, 2 iPod Photos.. and now socks! yeah!). But I expect if you look at the family as a whole, it shows a real growth in user value especially with the new iPod photo which I will buy when I can scrape up some money.. that thing is just way too cool.
I agree with Apple that video is a bad idea for a tiny portable device and if I want something smaller than a laptop on which to watch video, I’ll buy a portable DVD player which are now pretty cheap. Photos really are a pretty slick direction to push the iPod and the ability to show music slide shows on any TV is pretty amazing. I can really see Apple leaving everyone else in the dust here.. I am certain that the iPod Photo is going to do very well.
Now would be a good time to buy Apple stock. It’s only going up from here for the forseeable future.
