  1. There’s an online poll here…

“Online Music Battle Escalates: Real Acts of Desperation Against Apple, Targets iPod Owners”
    http://www.mac360.com/index.php/mac360/more/real_acts_of_desperation_against_apple_ipod_owners

    And a food fight here…

“Apple’s Jobs, RealNetworks’s Glaser Meet, Debate, Food Fight At Palo Alto’s MacArthur Park”
    http://www.mac360.com/index.php/mac360/more/apples_jobs_reals_glaser_meet_debate_fight_at_macarthur_park

It’s true what they say about Mac users. We’re creative.

  2. I just checked the online poll from the link above.

    Who’s Right, Apple or Real?

    80% – Apple
    5% – Real.

Have you tried the Real Music Store?

    1% – yes, I like it
    11% – yes, I don’t like it
    24% – no, haven’t tried it
    63% – happy with iTMS

Is iPod, iTunes Music Store “closed system”

    58% – yes, I don’t care
11% – yes, Apple should open it
    30% – no, it’s not important anyway

    Will RealNetworks Stay in Business?

64% – no, they’ll go out of business
    1% – yes, they’ll beat Apple
    35% – don’t care, not important

That’s the voting so far and it’s only lunch time over here.

  3. Tera Patricks says:

“I’m Tera. Not that one. She spells her name wrong. It’s probably not her name anyway. People say we look alike, though.

    I’m Tera the writer”

Very impressive. You run a Mac website AND you “bare” a resemblance to Tera Patrick. I do have to ask though: Is that your real hair on the website, or are you just sporting the G5 Alum look?

  4. I used my real name and spoke my mind about the issue and at the end of my comments I included the line that my comments in no way support Real’s petition. I hope they aren’t including that in their tally because no way do they have 378 valid signatures now.

  5. I think I’m older than that Tera anyway. It’s my real hair under there somewhere. I’m a dedicated Mac user, you know. Aluminum PowerBook, PowerMac G5, brushed aluminum iTunes, iPhoto look all over for me. I’m the only Mac writer with aluminum pants.

  6. August is the right time for music launching. All the big releases and music oriented stuff start being promoted for the back to school crowd. Business in the music biz picks up tremendously in August and September. That’s why Apple introduced new iPods. August may be the dog days of summer, but its the time when promotion begins for the Fall-Holiday seasons.

  7. If laughter truly is the best medicine, this whole fiasco will see Steve back at his desk by the weekend.

With under $400M in the bank, a market cap of $800M and losses running at around $5M/qtr, let’s wait and see how long Real lasts before somebody puts them out of their misery.

  8. This whole fiasco seems to be nothing but a vendetta by Glaser against being rebuffed by SJ. The guy is miffed and juvenile. It will get lots of press and then they’ll slowly fade a…..w…..a………………

  9. The “Gold Medal” comment from Real’s petition.

In my 60 years I have never seen a public corporation (Real Networks) behave in this way – technically hacking or in stirring up consumer petitions. All this is simply unreal and your stock deserves to be trashed. Real Networks is now losing its #1 service provider status with broadcasters after squeezing every cent out of the program. In my opinion Real has no where to go and the cost of this nonsense is at the expense of stakeholders. Whatever is said by Analysts about the PR value of this very strange behaviour is utter nonesense. Simply by reading the comments on this site, Real should see what a huge PR mistake it has made.

I’d like to take a moment here to thank everyone at Real for making August 17, 2004 one of the most enjoyable days in marketing history that I can remember.

  10. What’s going on here? Only Apple-related “News” items appear on their front page. Where’s the “article” saying Mac users can’t download from Real?

    Was “www.freedomofpcmusicchoice.org” already taken?

Talk about a bunch of sooky-la-la’s.

I think the site is going about it the wrong way anyway. Why don’t they complain about the record companies stranglehold on music?

    Wankers.
