Wondering about new iMac G5 design?  We have an idea…

Margaret Kane writes for CNET News, “The recent confirmation from Apple Computer that it’s planning to redesign the iMac prompted CNET News.com to wonder: So what will it look like? And who better to ask than our readers?”

MacDailyNews Take: Here we go with the iMac G5 speculation season. Enjoy! One hint from us: if the new iMac G5 doesn’t accept, somehow interact with, or include a built-in VESA Mount Adapter, we’ll switch to Windows XP (just kidding). You heard it here first.

  1. This is really pissing me off. Apple stopped selling iMacs, and said they will have new design in Sept. Why don’t they show us all NOW what the new G5 iMac will look like? This will not kill current iMac sales BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SELLING THEM ANYMORE ANYWAY!!!

  2. Why haven’t we seen a combo desktop/laptop? A flatscreen you can unplug and walk away with as a superlightweight (no superdrive, smaller feature set) laptop or tablet and bring home to use as a fully featured desktop. Not such a weird idea these days…

  3. My logical conclusion is that iMac will again be 2 year old technology thats all in one and customers will be scratching their heads saying what the hell is Apple doing. that all in one stuff is crap and is why 95% of the world buys Pc;s or Powermacs. all in ones suck the wad. i wonder if Apple learned the lessons with the failure known as iMac lcd. it was pretty but still a pretty failure in sales terms. come on apple stop being stupid and make a mini consumer tower. save your art classes for your kids.

Why would you bother with that? Powerbook 12″ is as compact and “superlightweight” as I could ever need, then at home plug it into a 21″ CRT (or huge overpriced LCD if that’s your thing), add a keyboard and mouse if you want. And it would cost you half as much as some sort of funky hybrid.

  5. Spock, I am the millionaire, you aren’t. I have been designing computers for 30 years, you haven’t. I know what you need, you don’t. Just buy what I produce and ignore the jeers of the pc crowd, you will live long and prosper.

We spend a lot of time making sure that macs cannot be mistaken for a dumb pc box. LOTS

    Mr. Steve Jobs.

  6. thinkdifferent: the best benefit of the “pizza box” everything-behind-the-screen-hang-on-the-wall design will be for the day keyboards are passe’ because voice recognition / voice recitation software works well enough to become standard issue. Why sit infront of your computer reading your email when your computer can read it to you while you’re working on another task? Save the screen for graphics instead of text. “One day” . . . one day may be sooner than we think – Jobs sure knows how to keep a secret and how long have his miracle-workers had to work on something that revolutionary??? And an ipod that could serve as the mic/speakers with a little wireless wizardry attachment so you could dictate from anywhere in the house. . . . .welcome to the future???

  7. You’re on drugs, memelvin, the keyboard won’t go away. Who wants their email read so that another one can hear it? Who wants to constantly talk to a screen? You’ll need bottled water next to it to keep your throat moist. Oh there are uses for speech to text and viceversa technology — limited uses; niches — that’s all.

  8. Judging from the volume of interest here and elsewhere, speculation as to the G5 iMac’s appearance and features seems set to explode as August rolls along.

Timing for a new iMac seems good. The past two months for PC users has been an object lesson is just how vulnerable, slow and stupid their machines can become due to trojans, worms and viruses. I know, because I’m still on one, just waiting for the G5 iMac to make the switch. I shall never look back.

If the marketing folks at Apple don’t tout the inherent value of their integrated security better, they’ll be missing an opportunity.

You have it all wrong. Billie produces viruses to screw people’s PC’s. Billie produces antiviruses to make more money. Billie is a d!kc.

APPLE, on the other hand, makes antiviruses so that morons who introduce pc documents into an apple can protect themselves against these corrupted files. APPLE doesn’t produce viruses. APPLE doesn’t screw their customers.

CONCLUSION: APPLE consumers live in a virus-free world!
