Vonage releases Xten’s X-PRO SoftPhone for Mac OS X

Vonage, the leading broadband telephony provider in the U.S., and Xten Networks, publisher of the award winning X-PRO SoftPhone, announced today that Vonage and Xten have completed interoperability testing of an OEM version of Xten’s X-PRO SIP SoftPhone for Mac-based Vonage subscribers.

Mac users can now download the Vonage X-PRO for the Mac OS X SoftPhone to start making and receiving telephone calls immediately on their computers, while maintaining the same quality of service they have come to expect from Vonage.

Road Warriors using the Vonage X-PRO SoftPhone for Mac OS X can access the Vonage service from almost any Internet connected personal computer. The Vonage X-PRO SoftPhone provides increased mobility of the Vonage service; this along with the feature-rich X-PRO’s ease-of-use, make it a winning combination.

  1. Just seconding the quality of the Vonage service. I cut the phone lines and haven’t looked back since. Of course, the quality of the experience relies heavily on the speed and reliability of your broadband connection. For those installing, make sure to put the Voice Terminal Adapter in front of your router/firewall, so that the device can do QoS btw voice & your data network.

  2. I’m on Vonage and I love the service. The benefit I see from it is that I travel alot and usually stay at hotels w/ broadband access. Now I don’t have to worry about missing important calls at home. Further, I’m wondering if I can use my bluetooth headset with the softphone? More research is needed on my part….

  3. So can my mac get a cell phone virus using this thing?

    (just kidding.) I know someone who got this service last week and is totally thrilled with it. iChat works for me. Even my 86 year-old aunt is online.

  4. Just remember to set up the 911 service. After set up, when dialing 911, you are connected to a general number which has no idea where you are. You have to provide your information (hello my name is 911 and I live at 911). Than they call your local 911 number. This service may not be available after hours and Vonage is not held liable if they are unable to reach your local 911. It is in the terms and agreements. Something to consider when you have other people in your resident that may need to use this service.
