“Napster, the now-legal music service, has hired its first Europe-based executive as part of a drive to expand into the lucrative European market. The appointment of Leanne Sharman, a former vice president of sales and marketing at MP3.com, was announced Friday,” Graeme Wearden writes for CNET News.com.
“Precise details of Sharman’s role weren’t available, but as Napster’s first European executive she will be spearheading the company’s expansion into Europe. The European market is being eyed by several big U.S. online music retailers,” Wearden writes. “‘We can’t say a great deal at this stage,’ said a Napster representative. ‘Leanne’s appointment is in response to the tremendous demand for Napster’s services that we have seen from Europe.’
“The representative explained that Napster wants to have a senior player located in Europe to create partnerships with European-based companies. Napster won’t name any likely partners at this stage, but says that it’s keen to look at a wide range of possible brand tie-ins,” Wearden writes. “Despite competition from services such as Apple Computer’s iTunesand RealNetworks’ Rhapsody, the new Napster is understood to be doing well.”

See! Napster is better than iTMS! They’re going to Europe!
Rageous! Oh shut your trap, you blow-hard! iTMS Europe is due this year. So is Japan! I don’t see them in Japan, yet.
“Despite competition from services such as Apple Computer’s iTunesand RealNetworks’ Rhapsody, the new Napster is understood to be doing well.”
Funny how, unlike Apple, they haven’t realeased any figures. How “well” are they really doing?
eaxit:
Sarcasm is lost on you.
The headline should read:
Napster, failing to make inroads into the music download market in the U.S., attempts to dump its product on poor, unsuspecting Europeans
Rageous,
I just finished my cup of coffee. Sarcasm detection is now fully operational!
April represents the one year anniversary of iTMS and would be a great time to open many other stores around the world. The Pepsi promo will just be finishing and the iPod mini will be stocking store shelves.
Euro iTunes store this spring?
While it’s not a big CONFIRMED!!, I think Europeans will be able to buy songs from iTMS soon enough. I hope so, because I am tired hearing about how Apple ignores European users, how big EU market is, and how Microsoft beat Apple to Europe.
