Apple Power Macintosh 970 photo posted online?

MacRumors has posted what’s purported to be an image of the new Apple Power Macintosh 970 tower. There’s not much more to add, besides, be dubious, be very dubious. So, without further ado, here it is:

Click for purported Power Macintosh 970 image.

Based upon a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, what probability to you assign to this image being an actual Apple Power Macintosh 970?

  1. Err, ummm, can I give it a negative infinity?

Then again, I thought the “windtunnel” images, when leaked, were fake, too – they were so butt ugly. Ive must be on Crack by now.

  2. Who cares what it looks like as long as it performs as it’s rumored to perform? They can make it look like a Dell mess and still sell more units than they can produce. “We now have Quark, we’ve had Photoshop, we have the go-ahead to buy – all we need are machines worthy of our money,” Creative and Publishing industries.

  3. Nope. Most people on MacRumors (and, indeed, Arn himself) seem to be treating this with a massive dollop of scepticism.

Although it’s really the insides that matter, I’d be loath to ‘switch’ from my Evesham to this: I’m pretty sure that Ive’s can do a hell of a lot better. I’d give is a ‘1’ on the probability scale.

  4. A German website had an article from someone who claims to have opened a box at a Apple re-seller (wasn’t supposed to do so until next Monday) and the description was completely different then the “photo”. This photo has been around since yesterday and since Apple has not asked it to be removed, it’s obviously a fake. On the other hand, the description of the new Power Macintoshg 970 was removed from the site shortly after appearing. Sounds like they were spot on. By the way it doesn’t look anything like the photo posted here.

  5. Rumours or not. Butt ugly or not. I think whatever attention placed on the 970 is useful.

I want Apple to understand how much some mac users want more powerful machines.

If the frenzy helps 970 out the door and puts the 980s firmly on the drawing board great! No more Moto G5 floundering nonsense.
Movies like LTR Two Towers are being rendered on Intel Dual processors, gamers keep harping PC! PC! its time for MAC!

  6. Yeah right! Who’s got the nerve to shame Apple like that, puleeeeeeeeez!! People! Could we get a little more creative here!! I bet you whoever posted that photo did it from a Wintel machine. Anyone with a Mac would not have the bawlz! to deface “our” logo like that! Shame, shame, shame!!

  7. ummm, the reason why movie effect houses buy PC’s is cos’ they are simply CHEAPER!! Macs are still too expensive to roll out. Even with the Power 970’s, price will still be a disadvantage. Unless Apple lowers there prices, forget about it, especially in this economy.

  8. Hey-after all its rendering not a photograph. I have to confess
that I am of two minds; I would like a more industrial design
for the box, something real form follows function in real aluminium.
I am seeing through to the faults in the present box — I like the
handles and the curve at the top but the front is very cheap
looking. Its time to make a box for generations.

  9. If that is the new Power Mac Then apple is screwed and that just might be pulled faster then the icube though the icube was very cool wich should come back….This cant posibley be right there is no way they would do this

  10. I recognize the “Real Photo” of the new G5 — In fact I still have the magazine it appeared it appeared in:

The mystery machine is no Wintel at all — rather it IS an APPLE computer: The Lisa: Not a Mac, but the progenitor of the entire Macintosh line. The first Apple with a mouse and a graphical interface when the Apple II was dying and the Apple III was not becoming its replacement.

It had 512K of Ram and cost $7,000 – 10,000 (with a massive 10GB drive!)

  11. That is the most crappy piece of bs I have ever seen on a rumor site. Whoever made that on Photoshop should be sentenced to death by the firing squad! How could anyone possibly put an apple logo on THAT!
