Do Windows-based computers have anything like iSync?

We received a short and sweet email that echoes the headline/question of this article. We can’t seem to locate anything like Apple’s iSync on the Windows platform. Hopefully, our dual-platform readers who are using Windows more heavily can help us out on this one. We’ll repeat the question:

Do Windows-based computers have anything like iSync?

Thanks in advance for your help.

More information about Apple’s iSync for Mac OS X here.

  1. They have the Palm Software which syncs with Outlook (Calendar) and maybe with the (Outlook) Address book. It’s also a one-button app, ’cause you just have to press the Sync button on your Palm.

What concerns cell phone syncing over bluetooth, I know nothing like iSync on the dark side

  2. Yeah, the Palm Desktop syncs the Palm with Windows with one-button. Big whoop. iSync sync’s your Palm, your phone(s), multiple Mac(s), Safari Bookmarks, iPod, etc. with one-button. Big difference.

  3. They have intellisync.
I was syncing my palm with my pc with yahoo and allowed phone syncing and a whole lot of other things aswell. I was doing that over 3 years ago.
Now I have an iBook and Palm Desktop for the Mac is no where near as easy and simple to use as Palm Desktop for Windows. And iSyncing between apps took way too long so don’t do it any more. Plus information needs too much editting to transfer to Apple’s iApps (when you have 4 years of history you want to preserve).
But the Mac still is better all round so worth sacrificing some features of my Palm for a better experience over all.
And to finish up, I think Apple should release it’s own Palm apps that integrate with it’s iApps much better (especially photo support for Address Book and Password managment with Keychain).

  4. syncML is one of the technologies iSync is founded on. So macs have had syncML ability since iSync came out about a year ago in beta format. (That version 1.0 in Windows circles =^)

Also, Palm Desktop software was once called Claris Organizer. That’s right, it was a Mac app made by the Claris division of Apple first, and was so good Palm bought it to use as the basis for their desktop software. Pretty much all the functionality of PD is directly from CO. For all intents, all Palm did was bolt on the sync manager and conduits. So, bragging about having the Windows version of Palm Desktop for years and years seems pretty silly in light of the facts I mentioned above.

If it weren’t for Apple, (remember the Newton — the first PDA) there probably wouldn’t be such friendly PDAs and desktop software to go with them, if at all.

    Thanks.

  5. So, basically, the answer to this question is:

No. Windows does not have anything like iSync. You have to use many apps and many, many clicks to achieve what one click achieves on a Mac.

  6. this isn’t regarding Phones, i don’t think. this is regarding 2 laptops, 2 computer, etc. not just mobile phones. i think mobile phones, pdas, come with their own sync software, it would be nice to have something like Isync

  7. I have a late model Mac running both Mac OS and Windows NT that has the Contacts and Calendars from my old Palm/Windows Mobile synced using Outlook/ActiveSync on the Windows side. How do I get translations for my new Google Android G1 phone?
