VLC (VideoLAN Client) has been updated to version 0.5.3. The portable multimedia player handles various audio and video formats including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, and more, as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. This new version offers support for video4linux as well as bug fixes for USB speakers on Mac OS X. See the full range of features here. It also adds stream type for some Motorola MPEG-2 video encoders, and support for 3ivx D4, ‘3ivd’ and ‘3vid’ encodings, support for ‘MSS1’ codec, and others. More info and download link here.

This is a great player that will play those weirdly coded .avi’s that QT can’t open. It even plays .wmv files BETTER than Windows Media Player!!!…and best of all, it’s free. However, I would gladly pay for it, especially if they are able to add the ability to convert those peskey .avi and .wmv files to QuickTime!
