Ben Rister today announced the release of Synk 5.1 for Mac OS X Tiger. Commonly utilized among those either looking to synchronize data on multiple computers or perform additional synchronization tasks, Synk 5.1 combines the extensive capabilities of past versions with an enhanced synchronization process intended to vastly reduce memory usage while simultaneously improving the speed of synchronization.
While previous versions of Synk 5 will continue to run under Tiger, Synk 5.1 also provides additional support for the new OS, allowing backups of Tiger-based systems to run more smoothly. In addition, Synk 5.1 also offers improved symbolic link and alias handling, as well as an updated scheduler. Furthermore, Rister worked to create superior conflict detection and resolution intended to more precisely reflect a user’s intentions.
“As part of a design group, we manage large quantities of project files, as well as thousands of images and other media stored on remote drives. Synk was the fastest, most reliable and easy-to-use product we tested,” said Eric Schurr, Director of Communications at the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute, University of Maryland in the press release. “Plus, it’s all about the people, as the saying goes. Ben Rister, the current Synk developer, is terrific to work with.”
Key features of Synk 5.1 include:
•Intuitive and user-friendly interface
•Native Cocoa support
•Informative preview window to assure full control over the outcome
•Rule-based inclusion and exclusion to allow detailed control over
synchronization
•Intelligent synchronization for detecting whether files have been added
or removed, and synchronization of deletions
•Powerful archival feature to preserve and organize modified documents
•Integrated scheduling support to allow synchronizations to be run
automatically
•Ability to execute as root to bypass permissions and ownership
•Capacity to properly synchronize packages as single units to avoid data
corruption
•Safe copy mechanism to help prevent data loss in case of lost connections

Worked well for me under Panther. This guy seems to know his onions and deserves to do well.
