Citi: All of the new 5.5-inch Apple iPhone 7 Plus models coming this fall will feature dual cameras

“Citi Research believes that all new 5.5-inch″ Apple iPhone 7′s coming this fall will be equipped with dual rear cameras,” Shuli Ren reports for Barron’s. “The street currently thinks the new 5.5″ iPhone will come with two models, one with dual cameras and one without.”

“Sony could be a major beneficiary,” Ren reports. “But one question is: Will Sony’s image sensor factories be able to churn out orders for Apple after the recent earthquakes? Citi’s Arthur Lai thinks Sony might be able to make it.”

We believe the dual-cam spec will be two 12MP lens sets. We suspect one of them will be a 5-piece structure and the other a 6-piece. We model Largan to have 80% market share in iPhone dual-cam. — Arthur Lai, Citi Research analyst

MacDailyNews Take: With one a 5-piece and the other a 6-piece, the idea of individual 5.5-inch iPhone Plus and “iPhone Pro” models is still alive.

  1. The MDN take doesn’t make sense… The article isn’t saying 1 model of phone with a 5 part assembly and the other model 6 part assembly… It’s taking about the separate lenses themselves in the dual lense setup… 1 lense in the dual lense setup will have a 5 party assembly and there other lense in the SAME lense setup will be a 6 party assembly… Which makes sense if you look at the parents they acquired for the dual lense camera.

  2. “Dual cameras”??? ALL current iPhones have dual cameras – one on the front and one on the back. Are MDN & Citi talking about two complete sensor+lens camera units on the back, or just a single sensor with dual lenses? Even after reading the Citi article, I can’t tell. Very sloppy writing all around.
