Apple Pay gains 27 new bank partners across the US

“Since launching in China two weeks ago and adding 3 million users in just two days, Apple Pay is continuing its expansion across the United States as well,” Zac Hall reports for 9to5Mac.

“The addition of Mainland China started with another dozen participating banks,” Hall reports, “and today another 27 banks have joined the 1,000+ partners in the US.”

“As for retailers accepting Apple Pay, we learned this week that American Apparel plans to begin taking Apple Pay at checkout in the future,” Hall reports. “It’s also believed that Japan, Hong Kong, Brazil, France, and other countries could be getting Apple Pay later this year.”

  1. And yet, after all of these anonymous “bank partners”, it’s nowhere to be seen in Canada after so long after its launch. As far as I know, Apple Pay in Canada only works with American Express and particular point of sale machines.

It’s basically a complete nonstarter in Canada.

  2. My local grocery chain accepts Apple Pay and, for a while, it was a great experience especially when using the self-checkout line. But then for some moronic reason the store, Shaw’s, decided that for security purposes requires a manager come over to enter 4 numbers into the system. Those 4 numbers are supposed to be the last 4 numbers of the credit card but because Apple uses a one-time temporary number for each transaction to keep your card number secure it is impossible to enter the correct 4 digits. Talk about making a really simple, secure process complex and insecure. I ended up wasting 5 minutes with the manager and using my physical credit card.

Does not bode well for these types of convenient transactions.

    1. Sounds like idiot management! Apple Pay is tokenized and secure no need to worry.

Tell them to call there banks before inflicting this nonsense on their customers.
